That’s with shins close to the bar, back straight, chest out, eyes up. It doesn’t go up super fast but it goes up nice and steady. My grip is pretty decent due to years of jiu-jitsu. However, I could barely lift 500lb off the floor. Any suggestions on improving? [/quote]
For max weight, I don’t think that chest out is ideal form. I’m not sure about the injury risk but both Dave Tate and Vince Anello prescribe forward rounding of the upper back to get the rest of the body more upright.
Hey hey…Have you tried low rep “choppers” as a warm up to your weight? I find it a bit easier on the system, esp. when dealifting…
I think Coach Staley wrote about something like this a while back, but you take a light weight and hit a few reps, rest a short (30s) bit and then go again, slowly increasing the weight until you hit your working weight. I think the idea is that is saves the wear on your nervous system of dealing with the big jumps in weight that only 3 w/u sets getting to 500 calls for.
Also, taking a bit of advice from Dave Tate’s dealifitng mistakes article (he refers to the mistake of training multiple reps for the deadlift), warm up to your weight only using singles grouped in three (single-rest-single-rest-single, up the weight, repeat) might have you at your max attempt with a bit more gas in the tank.
All of those singles will allow you to monitor your form much better than multipes as well.
3 stars…bump it up…any word on his most recent attempt? Any advice useful?
