I like the sound of those squats!!!
Boy Chigishev had to work for that last snatch. He really is the heavyweight snatch ‘master’.
So what’s the problem with your snatches then?
Sounds like great advice for the squats.
Seems like a very informative session. I approve of eating more after squats.

Ivan is a cutie!
I was amazed that Barbie is just over 5 feet and weight about 105 lbs. Video and pics are so deceiving. I’d have thought she was 5’7 or something, she looks so long limbed. So pretty to watch. You’re doing great Alexus!

Hot!
i think my problem with the snatches is that my standards have gone up.
i think i’m not finishing the pull properly (well, i’ve known that for a while) and that a part of that is that i don’t balance the bar over my traps properly (as debra and masch pointed out in my last vids). someone in the gym today suggested behind the neck push-presses with a heavy weight just so i find that sweet spot over my traps where the bar balances. think i do need to do some of that and then i’ll know where i’m aiming for the bar to travel… problems problems at each and every frigging part of the movement. heh. it really is so very frustrating sometimes…
did some first pulls and powersnatches today - working on getting the pull good and fast and getting the bar path good. worked reasonably well, but it all needs so very much more work.
that wasn’t the thread andy and debra… the one i was thinking of… i think andy was talking to koing (maybe)… about 105kg weightclass or something like that??? i think i said nom at some point… just wanted to check what that was about…
heh.
That WAS a great squat session. Good luck figuring out the food thing. I keep it simple and just eat as much as I feel like I need to after I lift. Sucks when I finish my session and it is almost midnight though. Oh well. I eat in the middle of the night anyway.
Best of luck with the snatches. You do have very high standards which I think is very cool btw.
Snatches are so damn maddening when they don’t work but that’s why a really good one feels so good! Figuring out what your doing wrong is the hardest part. I think your theory sounds good. Don’t fight with it on your own too long. Throw some videos in the Oly log and get some feedback if you’re still stuck. Don’t get discouraged! (I don’t think you are but just saying
)
I think you’re struggling a bit more too because your snatch weight is higher and it’s forcing your technical issues to show themselves. I’m finding the same thing.
I was recommended the BTN presses (push presses) for a similar reason to get my jerk straightened out.

I just ordered some of these. Maybe I can learn to goblet squat in them and eventually squat properly in them one day…
The upper part of my current shoes is starting to disintegrate, anyway, and it will be much faster to get the old soles put on the new shoes if I already have the new shoes. Don’t want to be in the position of being without them like I was when I got my old ones altered, anyway.
Have a virtual mound of grading to get through… Hopefully by midnight :-/
No sneaking off to the gym today… Still… Good to take my scheduled rest day, I suppose. FRONT SQUAT 5x5 @ 37.5kg tomorrow, by gee!!!
New shoes! Mine are do-wins but they look a little different than those. Good thinking to buy them early.
loved the write up on Kai - kind of like channeling my low belly grunt on the really heavy stuff. Now visualize a stronger one…
And the Evgeni vid gave me goosebumps! loved it. runt of the pack lowest weight and tall guy yet brings in the gold against all odds. beautiful. Especially the snatch view from behind when we see that ass working! yum.
I was a lazy loser last friday, didn’t put my wrist wraps to squat and felt the pain and numbness after. lesson learned. Glad to see you focusing on the squat cues. It will come together eventually. That’s what I tell myself ![]()
Those shoes are cute! It looks like it has a lift though, I don’t think I’ll be able to squat in them. Still cute though.

I think this too =)
i think that a huge part of what is so addictive about snatches is that the reinforcement of a good lift is infrequent but not too infrequent. like pokie machines. optimized for addiction.
eva / rolling warm-up.
SNATCH: mostly stuffing around with triples. trying to get the hang of bar back over my traps for the catch.
high rep deadlift dude who liked to change his plates on the bar right in front of me just as i was about to lift almost got the bar dropped loudly behind him midset. except i did a very smooth and effortless miss behind since i pulled the crap out of it a little too hard. i know this sounds odd but it really did feel like a beautiful miss ![]()
borrowed someones wrist wraps for a couple snatches. that helped with my holding the bar back over my traps a great deal. realized that i wasn’t really rotating my wrists because they didn’t feel stable. brought some wrist wraps.
FRONT SQUAT 5x5 first time @ 37.5kg. Got them all. WTF??? And I couldn’t do all my reps of 8x3 @ 40kg the other day??? Oh well… Looks like 5x5 @ 40kg next time. Bizarre, indeed. I’ll take it, though ![]()
I think mine are the 2010 model, Debra, whereas yours are probably either 2011 or a different style. Not much choice of style here (and not the latest models) since they order bulk shipments and they seem to take a while to sell. Still… Shorter delivery time and cheaper shipping.
Congrats on the front squats.
I can definetely see how missing a snatch can be beautiful. Hope your new wrist wraps help in the snatching to come.
thanks nikki.
i don’t seem to get DOMS from squats. need to spend longer rolling out the muscle tension the next day, though, and tend to have more of a systems failure generalized fatigue. wasn’t really in the mood today. did some snatches up to 35kg and it just felt heavy and i felt like i couldn’t really be bothered. wrist wraps did seem to help me remember to roll my wrist back and aim for the bar to be back over my traps more. felt more precarious, though, with respect to whether i made a lift or not.
my shoes arrived. they make me realize just how crappy and uncomfortable my old shoes are. spent about an hour trying to get a good bottom position in them holding onto various implements and eventually with the bar overhead. sort of precarious… ankles seem to be getting a teeny tiny bit more of a range of motion. managed a couple snatches @20kg with a slightly wider than usual stance. well… heels just outside shoulder width but toes turned out pretty far so i could send my knees well to the sides. could do a front squat like that but felt weak to stand up.
i don’t know.
i’ll definitely keep up squats with my old shoes since i’m making progress with them with respect to the weights going up. i’ll see about snatches and the like. maybe… i’ll suck up simply beginning over and learning to snatch in my new shoes. or maybe i won’t. we’ll see. don’t suppose i’m in any particular hurry. maybe do a bit of both until i prefer things the new way.
Hi Alexus!
Glad to hear that you are happily addicted over here. The intermittent reinforcement schedule is the most powerful! Good for you on the squats. It’s nice to hear that your ROM and strength just continue to improve. The shoes are cuties! Me LIKEY!
you might just need a lil breather, nothing wrong with that–means you’ve been working HARD. No shame in that!!
your cns might be needing a lil time to recover…anyways…to the fun stuff; SHOES :D!!!
I like how you ladies on here write your logs, you’re far more analytical than the men, lots of stuff about emotion and how you’re feeling about training at that particular time. It’s much more enlightening and educational for the reader.
Too much macho crap in a lot of mens logs. I mean what can you learn from,
snatches - some x some
or
squats - some x who gives a f##k?
Lol! Farmer Brett, that’s a very sweet and very insightful comment. I have always noticed this too! And I’d imagine that some people might thing “Gah! them womenz talk so much about nonesense” lol! But I think many of us here in PW view weight training more holistically then the men. Maybe because we have fluctuating hormones or something? I don’t know. But I also appreciate all the analysis.
That said, LEX!!! There is so much I want to comment on!! But my head is hurting. I just wanted to come in to tell you that I’ll be back tomorrow with more commentary. Lol! (I might be delirious right now, sorry)
I have the same oly shoes btw!! I luuuurv them. I hope they bring you as much joy as they bring me ![]()
See you tomorrow!
Alex is the best at this.
Regrettably I don’t write down my analysis in my TN log, only my personal log.

Ok, I do this for some warm-up sets. Shit, should I just go to the men’s logs? ;(
I still can’t get over how cute those shoes are. I want them and I don’t even do Oly.
Glad they arrived and you got to play in them Alex =)
