BCAA Powder vs. BCAA in Protein Shake


I recently purchased some BCAA powder and some more whey. I decided to purchase a different whey(IDS) than what I was previously taking(EAS). First of all, the whey that I have has 2100 mg of Valine, 3800 mg of Leucine, and 2300 mg of Isoleucine. Isn’t this amount of BCAA the same amount if not more than what is in my 5 g serving of BCAA powder (w/ a 2:1:1) ratio? I know that I can take the BCAA powder at times throughout the day without the shake, but my plan was to mix the powder with my whey pre and post workout. Am I wasting my money with the powder since their are BCAAs in my shake? Is the extra 5 g in my shake bad for me or unnecessary? Different posts here have recommended different amounts of BCAAs that should be taken. Is 5 grams x 3 times a day enough or adequate? Thanks for any input.

extra BCAA will be really good for you. 5g 3x a day is a good start.
