I use a thumbless grip for most things except bench. I used to use it to bench as well, but its banned by USAPL and after that USC kid got f’d up, I switched. I don’t think its nearly as dangerous for press because the weight is not going to crush your face or neck in the same way as it would on bench. And I really prefer the feel of the thumbless grip–it just feels stronger.

I’ve switched to thumbless on my push presses. Seems to seat the bar better in my hands and lets me get my elbows out quicker so the bar is easier to put over my head.

Hey steve, looks like some serious work going on here. I am one of the aforementioned fat guys that can’t do a single chin. it is sad. If I can ever drop some weight, I think I’ll be able to start doing them again
Nice job on the Chins! Way to represent us fat guys. I think one of my prouder accomplishments was hitting 5 dead hang pull ups. I would like to do 10 someday…
