Check out this vid from one of the best MMA strength training coaches around…
I haven’t gotten to use them yet. I figure they take out any possiblity of injury that may arise from say high rep dumbbell cleans or something of the sort. Its like really fucked up double dutch :-p
Such a badass concept I want to buy the setup or rig it up myself asap… Tons of potential.
I was fortunate enough to be at Ethan Reeve’s strength coaches clinic a year ago when John Brookfield demo’d these for the first time. I ordered a rope from him as soon as I got home.
His head coach on these, Steven Mosley, turns out lives close to me in Atlanta, so I contacted him and he and I are doing quite a bit of training together and working on some joint ventures utilizing battling ropes (and other methods) for military, law enforcement and fire fighters down here.
Many of the athletes I train have been using this system as well. I think combative athletes will gain quite a bit in the way of conditioning with these in particular. John is doing many new things with them. Get involved over at his Masters of Velocity forum (link is on the Battling Ropes website) as there is quite a bit of info there. Much more than my monthly column you ran across at halfsquare.net!

I first saw this in my Grapplers Gym newsletter today. Looks like some decent GPP. I wonder how much those ropes would cost…
I wonder if you could get similar results with lengths of chain?[/quote]
Chains would be tough! You could probably do it with rubber garden hoses too. I like the idea of the thick rope. It would be great for grip strength.
i’m missing something, i really don’t mean to sound like a smart ass, but what good is wiggling some ropes gonna do? what purpose is it for, and when would you use this?
