My intake for today:
Meal #1 -
1 serving oatmeal
1/2 mixed frozen berries (blueberries, marionberries, raspberries)
3 eggs
2/3 C egg whites
Meal #2 -
2 scoops Grow! Whey
1/4 c walnuts
meal #3 -
3 turkey sausage links

1/4 chicken quesadilla
meal #4 -
1/2 c fat free cottage cheese
little sprinkling of chocolate Metabolic Drive Complete

meal #5 -

So I added a small portion of a quesadilla and some chips and salsa. Blow me.
Not sure why, but I don’t have much to say right now. I haven’t been to the gym yet because if you go to Globo Gym before 8 pm its like trying to train in Times Square on New Years Eve. Plus, I’m the only one that speaks English so even if I wanted to talk to someone (which I wouldn’t) it would have to be in Spanish (which I don’t speak). I can’t even swear in Spanish so yelling at someone is a futile effort.
Plus its been about 900 degrees here lately and since there are no windows and the AC rarely works, I am going to go at night when there are less people there.
Oh I’m sure I will think of something to go all TC on your ass but right now, I’m kind of speechless. Or really tired. Not sure which.
Off to do some German Accumulation. Torso I to be exact. If it looks familiar when I post it, its because I did this back in January when I was fat and trying to get skinny. Well, I’m still somewhat fat (not quite where I want to be) but I want to see what this program is like with more food intake.
Plus my knee is fucked and can’t really do legs.
I miss squats ![]()
Pardon my ignorance Chris, but what are marionberries?
And 8 oz of broccoli!!! That’s a lot!! But I love broccoli, so that’s cool with me, I’m sure you’re fine with it also.

‘Marion’ (marketed as “Marionberry”) is an important cultivar and is from a cross between ‘Chehalem’ and ‘Olallie’ (commonly called “olallieberry”) berries. It is claimed to “capture the best attributes of both berries and yields an aromatic bouquet and an intense blackberry flavor”.[5].
The Marionberry was introduced by G.F. Waldo with USDA-ARS in Corvallis, Oregon in 1956. Adapted to western Oregon, the Marionberry is named after Marion County, Oregon, in which it was tested extensively. Olallie in turn is a cross between loganberry and youngberry.
‘Marion’, ‘Chehalem’ and ‘Olallie’ are just three of the many trailing blackberry cultivars developed by the United States Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) blackberry breeding program at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.
Its a West Coast thing.
They are very sour and will make your face do funny things if you aren’t used to them. My grandmother (rest her soul) used to make this Marionberry pie as a kid that I LOVED. It was insane.
Whats the first thing I do when I get to the gym? Make notes on an empty page reminding me of stuff to talk about. Where to start…lets go here:
Things Not To Do While “Exercising”
Please, whatever you do, never wear batting gloves while doing leg press. I can almost see a use for batting gloves if you were the biggest pussy on the planet and could handle holding the bar barehanded. Straps are one thing, but batting gloves are made for playing baseball, not doing leg press and don’t even get me started on that one.
A second though on the already mentioned title. I just have to talk about morons doing bicep curls in a squat racks. I think its a safe bet to say that A. you should never be doing bicep curls in a squat rack, agreed? Good, but B. don’t do bicep curls in a squat rack with a staggered stance, grunting like Thibs trying to taking a dump. Especially if your arms have less circumference than my shlong.
Then there’s what I like to call “wife beater guy”. Every gym has one. You get one douche bag rolling around in just a wife beater, huffing and puffing like Shugs after sex. What makes it worse is when he is doing walking lunges with 75 pound dumbbells in each hand and can’t even get drop his knee all the way down. Then he parades around after each set with a look of agonizing pain on his face. C’mon dude. I do more in 45 minutes than you do in 2 hours in the gym. Which, someone remind me to rant about that some day. How people can go to the gym and be there for HOURS and get nothing accomplished.
When I started my PC I was at the gym for 2-2.5 hours but I was kicking my ass. I trained today for about an hour and 15 minutes and did more sets and exercises than half the dillweeds that were there.
I feel better now.
To the good stuff: 4 sets of every giant set
A1) Seated Row, Supinated Grip - 6-8 reps, 195 pounds
10 sec rest
A2) Chest Supported DB Row (30 Degree incline bench) - 10-12 reps, 45 pounds
10 sec rest
A3) Chest Supported Rear Delt Flies - 20-25, 10 pounds
10-12 cable crunches
150 seconds rest
B1) Incline Bench - 6-8 reps, 185,185,165,155
10 sec rest
B2) Bench - 10-12 reps, 185,165,155,145
10 sec rest
B3) Incline DB Press - 20-25 reps, 40, 32.5,32.5,32.5
10-12 cable crunches
150 seconds rest
I remember this session being hard, but man, I don’t remember it being that hard. It wasn’t so much the ‘A’ series but I got worked in the ‘B’ series. I definitely hit a wall and lost my threshold to lift heavy weight with good form. Hence, the dropping of the weight over the course of that set.
Needless to say, my back is worked, my chest hurts and my arms are throbbing. Besides the funny looks I was getting because nobody at that gym has ever seen anyone train that way, this was a good session. I had to share some equipment and that threw me off a little bit, but nonetheless it was a good fun session. I am hoping that with the increased caloric intake, that I will see some good muscle gains.
I did forget to mention that I am also taking Biotest’s German Creatine. Figured why the hell not, I’m trying to get a little bigger and I had it, so I’ve been loading up on that stuff. Not too bad in Green Tea.
lol Man I cant stand the people who think its productive to be at the gym for 2 plus hours. There use to be a couple guys at the gym who would be there for hours on end and in 2 months they acheived nothing. Sad part is they were trainers. Id be there for maybee an hour and a half accomplish more work and got better results. They both would mean mug me all the time too.
And yes fat people drive me nuts too. Infact in my training log later Im goin to rant about my fat people experince today.
Loving the massive amounts of Broccoli your downing man. Do you prefer the tops or stems, or does it not matter to you? I’m a top man, and have to really force myself to crunch through the stems.

I buy the bags of organic florettes, so they are trimmed down a little. I steam the shit out of mine so they are nice and soft but I enjoy the whole thing. And 8 oz really isn’t that much, I am usually hungry an hour later.

Next time I visit the West Coast (which I don’t know when that will be), I will have to try them. And yes, I’ve been warned they are sour. I look forward to my funny faces.

Imagine eating a sour patch kid for the first time.
its like that
Bartl:
Loved your Physique Clinic.
You’ve sung the praises of Surge Workout Fuel (SWOF) and begged T-Nation to let you continue to have it until the formal offering of the product for sale to the public.
But just recently on other forum boards here I was shocked to hear people saying that the stuff will likely be going for $180 to $200 per container. TC commented that its target audience would be professional athletes and that not much would sell through the T-Nation web site.
I was shocked. Heck, looking at the Steroids forum here, the freakin’ illegal stuff practically costs less than that!
First of all, are you at liberty to say how many servings are in the containers you’ve been getting? And, what is the “protocol” for taking the stuff? (How long would a $200 quantity of SWOF last a typical user?) Will you be able to continue using SWOF when the witching hour arrives and you have to start buying it?
Secondly, how do you feel about this pricing and the fact that TC seems to be targeting professionals only? I have to admit, as a “regular guy” I’m feeling like I’m kind of getting snubbed by the 'Nation!

The only confidentiality I have from the clinic is not to give away Thibs training programs, but if you notice, I don’t have to give them away because I wrote them all down.
Regarding the first set of questions. The serving size is one scoop with 10 oz of ice cold waterr, which is smaller than any other protein powder product I have gotten from Biotest and there are give or take 50 servings in each container. “Protocol” is one scoop 15 minutes prior to training to hydrate the muscles, then 20 fluid ounces for every hour of training, then one scoop within 60 minutes or so of the end of your training.
As for the product itself, I am not shocked to hear that it would sell for that much. Its worth it. Gatorade is good but it is not even in the same ballpark when you drink it while training.
Look, Biotest is going to piss a lot of people off with this product. People have gotten used to getting everything from Biotest and now that they have a product that is designed specifically for a type of trainee or athlete, 90% of the people on this site with throw fit because its “not affordable”. Well, those 90% of people aren’t their target audience, professional or high level competitive athletes are.
As a regular guy like you, I will buy the stuff and use it, BUT I WILL ONLY USE IT FOR MY TRIATHLONS. I want to specify that point because, honestly, there is no need for joe-schmo lifter to use it. Its designed to help athletic performance. While lifting could be qualified as an athletic endeavor, again, its not what its designed for.
I will only buy and use for races because when I was training and competing in my race, I could tell the minute it hit my body. I gave me energy and hydration. People were cramping up all around me by drinking Gatorade. I was nowhere near cramping.
And you shouldn’t feel snubbed my Biotest. This product is probably expensive as all hell to make and there is no way they could cover the expense at 49.99 a bottle.
I would look at it like this: if they are able to make a product that is this elite, where it costs this much, then their scientists are obviously onto something. Its only a matter a time before they can develop a product and package and market it like Gatorade.
Dudes and dudettes,
I’m tired and completely drained. I haven’t gotten 8 hours of sleep in weeks and I won’t get it tonight. I will post my training and nutrition tomorrow morning while my coffee brews.
Who read Thibs last article? Is it just me, or is Jamie Eason (sp?) one the hottest chicks on this planet.
snap
Bartl, I have never posted on your clinic. But, I have to say that you helped me alot. We are a bout the same age, and have many of the same backgrounds. When I started following your clinic I took measurements right after you did. It was a great eye opener. I have made some great gains, but nothing compared to you. And then again, I wasn’t under the scrutinizing eyes of the Nation and your coaches. I have to say your music recommendations were spot on, I add a few heavier songs for tougher days. Good luck with everything. Next time you are in Washington, you should visit Olympia so you can check out the soon-to-be trophy wives in training and the confused bohemian trustafarians. It’s fairly interesting!
As for the other guys comment about SWOF, they said it cost a mint to make. That is why it cost so much for consumers. To bitch about that would be like bitching about it costing so much for Coach Thibs and Coach Shugart to train them.
Anyway, rock on!

I read that article, she’s hotter than doughnut grease, gotta be in the top 2-3 hottest women on the planet!!! Next to my wife of course, incase she reads this :).
Where do you get a swim suit like that anyway? The eye patch supply store?
Get some sleep ya sleep slacker!

Thanks bdfrogs, I’m glad that I was able to help in someway. I love getting those comments because it just reaffirms in my belief that I am not having an early mid-life crisis by changing careers. That if I can help motivate people just by posting my thoughts, just imagine what I can do to you in person!
As for WA, I don’t usually make it down to Olympia but if I can, I will let you know for sure.

I have no idea who came up for the idea for a suit like that, but the guy is a genius. As for the guy who decided to put Ms. Eason in that suit…BRILLIANT!

There should be some kind of award given for sure.
Well, life got in the way.
I had a birthday party yesterday so I moved up my off day and moved arms until tonight. I did miss posting a training day, so here is my shoulder session from Tuesday:
4 sets of each
A1) Seated Military Press - 6-8 reps, 135,135,115,115
rest 10 seconds
A2) Seated DB Military Press, Hammer Grip - 10-12 reps, 40,40,35,32.5
rest 10 seconds
A3) Lateral Raises - 20-25 reps, 10
rest 150 seconds
Holy eff that was tough. I don’t remember it being that hard, but man, I couldn’t maintain the same weight throughout the session. My shoulders were fried after this superset. I now know why my shoulders looked so good in that race picture.
B1) Upright Row - 6-8 reps, 95
10 seconds rest
B2) Incline Front DB Raises - 10-12 reps, 15
10 seconds rest
B3) Barbell Front Raises - 20-25 reps, 30 pounds
150 seconds rest
These were brutal considering my shoulders were hammered from the first set.
Not much else to say. My batteries are still running a little low and am looking forward to the 3-day weekend.
Not sure if you noticed but my article got published. Its kind of hard to miss, but if you look at the main page, you will find it.
