Bartl's Back!

Morning! Just read your cover story and I must say really enjoyed it. Good work.

Thanks dude! My dad read it and gave what is probably the best compliment and father could give to his son. He said he was proud of me. That coming from my dad, who is not a very outgoingly emotional person was so nice to hear.

Bartl - I just read your transformation article, and have to say it was one helluva good read. I sent it to my wife, so she can read about the “Internet Guy” who helped precipitate my Pheonix Moment.

Yep that’s the best feeling right there. Dad’s don’t often say those kind of things so when they do you know you’ve earned it.

Like I said, man, if you’re ever in New England… I know some VERY good Maine-only breweries…

Hey Bartl,

Congrats again on this whole transformation and the article was very well-written. Not to mention the content is off the charts - really.

I am pulling on the memory here but I think Thibs recommended to Gus at the very end of his PC to increase protein by 50 g and carbs by 25 g per week or two until he got to the point where he was gaining more fat than he thought he should nad scale back one increment. Gus’ goal was a slow clean bulk and not quick mass. But this may give you some more guideline.

You may also go back to the formula Shugs used to calc. the V-Diet calories:

Plug body weight into this equation:

(10.2 x bodyweight + 879) x .50 = _____

Now do it again with this equation:

(10.2 x bodyweight + 879) x .60 = _____

Larger number is your calorie goal for lifting days; smaller number is for non-lifting days.

IF you take out the deficit factors of 0.5 or 0.6, that should get you close to maintenance and you could start you calories there defining the macros from there.

I am sure there is a maint. formula somewhere and you could add some % like 10% or so and see how it affects your body.

Either way, you know what to do man to get rid of it. Now, you are just figuring out how to go the other way efficiently.

Later,

Ed

Hey Chris, looks like things are going well. How are you adjusting to the new diet? And I read your article on Thursday, it was awesome!!! I kept up with your thread from the beginning, but to see it put altogether made for an excellent read. Congrats on all the success and keep rollin!!

I just read your transformation article, so inspirational. I love your penchance for women, booze and BDSM … love it!

I have been on hiatus from T-Nation for a minute but will definitely keep up with your training now that I’m back for good.

Great article, man! You know, its something like that really challenges the bitch in you (read:me). After seeing what you’ve accomplished, it really takes the wind out of anyones sail that claims that they can’t do the same thing. Thanks for the inspiration. Will you now join me in an e-high five? high five

According to the formula above, I should be at around 4,000 calories on a training day and 3500 on a not training day. right now I’m at about 2000 on a training day.

But like Thibs always says, its not about the calories but the nutrients. On training days I’m getting 250 g of Protein with only 73 g’s of Carbs and 200 g’s of protein and 20 g’s of carbs on non-trainning days. That I can handle

I love women. I met one last night, holy cow. Smoking hot and she wants me to help her get ready for a 5k fun run. I told her I would only do it if she had dinner with me.

Lets just say that Shugs “Panty Dropping Lasagna” will be making an appearance in the near future!

high five followed by a low five

For those around Quebec City on July 4th, you should look into going to this show:

http://www.infofestival.com/Html/fr-ca/Programmation.html

NOFX and The Weakerthans on the same day.

Wish I could be there.

NOFX + a French Canadian City = some hilarious banter with the crowd.

didn’t you say you were wanting to try out the V-Diet towards the end of your PC? what changed your mind?

Unless i made that up…

Nope you didn’t make that up just got the time line a little backwards.

I am trying to do a clean bulk, then prepare for my text race which is at the end of August. Then I will go into the V-diet once I get back from a mini-vaca up to Washington to visit my family. It will be the first time they have all seen me post fat, except for my parents.

Once the V-diet is done, then I focus on getting my dead lift back over 405. Hopes are by the end of the year, I will be a solid 6-8% BF.

Be sure and throw down some video of that 405 deadlift when you get to it! I love seeing those PR’s.

It wouldn’t be my all time PR. I have a ways to go until I get that. 505 is my all time PR, but baby steps. First 405, then 505.

It’s not an early mid-life crisis, it’s just harder to have fun when you are out of shape(yeah, I know pear is a shape). Coming to WA soon huh, debauchery in Oly you seek. I am still having problems force feeding my self first thing in the morning. Any tips?

Not really. I wake up starving and usually can’t fill myself up enough!
