Bartl's Back!

Just wanted to chime in and echo was WS4JB has said about diet tinkering. I think it might be good to up your cals 250 or so per week until you find a sweet spot.

Sadly I made this mistake years ago. After dieting down from 260+ to 183 (with the help of a ketogenic diet) I decided I wanted more muscle mass. I got into Powerlifting and hung with Powerlifters. While my training was sound, I fell into the “you gotta eat!” mentality and got back up to the 230’s. I was strong, but fat once again.

I think I recall Thibs posting something like, “Do not accept any more fat gain than you can lose in 3 weeks” and I think that’s sound advice.

Hey, Bartl!

It’s about time you’re back.

I guess it’ll be pretty hard to beat your first transformation, but you just go and get it done, man. How are them damn hammies and your knee going?

I just can’t wait to see how the V-Diet will affect your rants

Good to see you back in action! Although “action” could be taking in more ways than one, judging by your libidinous weekend.

Looking forward to following your progress again.

I have been thinking long and hard about my diet. And while I want to eat everything in site, I just don’t think that my body is reacting well to it.

I’ll leave that little teaser and write more about this later. But, again, Thibs is right (I hope he doesn’t see that).

Funny you ask about the hammies and my knee. I just can’t seem to get those damn things better. Playing hockey was prolly the worst I idea I have had in a while and now walking is an excursion.

Another little teaser for you…

If you think my rants are crazy now, picture me 2 weeks into the V-Diet! I can’t wait…

Whips, sex and alcohol…is there a better combination?

So, are you enjoying the soreness that comes from ABBH, you never think that you’ll be hurting so bad when you walk out the gym that day.

And i love that Bench/Bent over row combo.

whats the cardio like right now ? Just the walks to the gym ?

I prefer the whips, sex, and alcohol mix, but I think your missing the women part. I tend to enjoy their company as well.

Good to have you back bro, and your going to feel fat when not dieting after doing it for so long. Get the fuck over it to be blunt. You might even gain a little fat on the way, but you’ll gain more muscle than fat and it will off set. Just tinker with whatever you feel is right and then stick with it no matter what the head games say. I’m going through that same exact thing right now. The head games get intense, just write down what your supposed to do and do it.

You’ll doubt yourself but remember what you accomplished in the clinic and how much fat you dropped in the amount of time. What’s a 2 pound fat gain to you? 3 days of work?
There will be a time to get down to the ripped stage, that’s just not now.

DUDE, YOU GOT LAID!!!

I’ve been reading T-Nation and following your PC forever, and though I’ve never posted anything before, I just had to say something when I read that.

Congrats on the triathlon and the way you completely turned your life around, but in the end doesn’t giving it to a girl good give you the ultimate Alpha Male feeling?

The entire time I read your PC I was feeling kinda bad that you were single and always too busy with everything to ever have fun. When you said you had a date for valentine’s day, I couldn’t wait to hear how it unfolded, but you didn’t give too many details, just a “things went well.”

You fought a really hard battle and proved yourself a man and while celebrating of course girls couldn’t help but want you between their sheets. You must have had testosterone practically oozing out your ears.

I doubt thats how things were on your pre-PC benders.

YOU’RE THE MAN!!!

I never thought simplicity would be so painful. Its crazy.

I love the front squat/pike/standing calf combo myself.

As for cardio, just walking and swimming. Mostly swimming right now just because after my hockey incident, I haven’t been able to walk to well.

Today I surf!

This is true…women are nice company.

And I will never forget the fatness, its the desktop image on my computer. I get pissed every time I turn the damn thing on.

You know, I have to admit, I’m on a pretty good roll right now. Its not that I go out and actively try to get laid, it just happens. I need to get it in now because now that I am finally done moving, am settled into my new job I can finally start to focus on studying for my ACE training certification. Then I will really have no spare time.

So I take it when I can get it.

And yes, I had a lot of testosterone to release. Krakatoa!

Bartl,

the hammie-knee thing is something that should be taken care of. Have you been able to identify what’s causing it?

Here are some pointers that might help you, since I have a similar issue going with my right posterior chain muscles:
upon waking up my right glute is tight, as are my right hammies.

Putting a sock on my right foot is a bitch on my right glute when I lay my right foot on my left leg.

If I don’t stretch my posterior chain prior to squats, my right knee hurts and the load isn’t equally distributed along both e. spinae.

Going for a longer run does the same to my right knee; downhill tracks are a bitch, whereas uphill sprints actually feel relieving. At first I thought it a bodyweight issue, but considering that I could run for about 2 hours at 275 lbs without any pain in my knees, I became suspicious.

Besides, my right hip sits higher than my left one. That’s the biggest clue for a dysbalance.

I’ve found out that performing work on my right quadratus lumborum helps a lot.

Fix that damn problem, dude.

Fatty.

I haven’t quite figured it out yet. Good thing is that I become eligible for health insurance through work on June 1 and I already plan on seeing a specialist soon there after. I really want to get back into big leg training, not to mention my training for my next race.

I’ll keep everyone posted.

Couple things: first…a rant, sponsored by fat people.

I love reading Shug’s blog. The guy is me on roids when it comes to his opinion’s.

One of his last articles, he discusses his view of fat people. It had me rolling on the floor because I was laughing so hard. Right after I read that article, I go to a work open house and an insanely fat person was there. I couldn’t help but notice the irony. I was watching this guy take down half sandwich’s like there was no food left on the earth.

THEN, on Friday night, I go out with the work girls (I am the only male in the office, its niiiiiiice). I volunteer to be the sober driver for the night because I needed to see these girls get hammered.

I show up to the first bar and they are all there and I get introduced to a couple friends of their’s. wow. Talk about fat. I’m talking fat, like the mom from the movie “Whats Eating Gilbert Grape” type fat.

I sat at the opposite end of the table and tried not to stare, which was a challenge. They were completely depressed, sitting there slouching and pouting. I almost felt bad for them, then I saw them order food. That feeling went away real quick after seeing that.

At one point they decided to play the “age” game, where everyone tries to guess everyone’s age. One of the fatties looks at me and asks me how old I think she is. Lets just say I over shot by 6 years in the older direction. She was crushed.

I couldn’t help but laugh because everyone was under guessing my age. If we played this game 6 months ago, they would be the one’s over guessing my age. The irony was as thick as peanut butter.

Oh and watching drunk fat chicks do karaoke is priceless. I wish I had a video camera because fat chicks doing karaoke on you tube is even more funny.

I’m still tinkering with the diet and actually my diet and my training is going to change.

While I am loving the ABBH training, I just don’t want to push my knee until I know what exactly is wrong with it and the program requires some extensive leg work.

So, with that in mind, I am going back to a training that I did in my PC after I hurt my knee. I’m going to do the German Accumulation program Thibs designed for me, with an upper body focus. My diet will not quite be the same as it was during my PC, but it will be different that what it has been. I’m thinking of something like this:

Training Day:
Meal #1 -
3 eggs w/ 1/2 C egg whites
1 serving organic oatmeal with blueberries

Meal #2 -
2 scoops Grow!
1 serving of Almonds

Meal #3
8 oz chicken breast
8 oz steamed broccoli

Meal #4
2/3 C Fat Free Cottage Cheese, sprinkle some chocolate MDC for flavor
1 serving of walnuts

Meal #5
8 oz shrimp w/ 1 T coconut oil
Iceburg lettuce

20 BCAA’s
1 scoop SWOF
2 scoops Grow!

On non-training days, I will subtract out the oatmeal and walnuts. That and the lack of SWOF on non-training days, will give me right around a 50 g carb difference between training and non-training days.

Thoughts on this diet?

Chris, in my opinion, this diet looks to be a much better fit.

I wasnt sure how that knee would hold up with all that front squatting and dead lifting that you have in ABBH.

Gotta love being the sober guy in a group of drunk girls, tonight i was the sober bartender at a private party for a big group of girls celebrating a graduation… good times.

Tequila, if used properly, can be mans best friend.

How was your weekend? Did you have another victim…I mean date?

Tequila, if not respected, can me your mortal enemy.

…but yes, when girl’s drink tequila things get crazy.

The first of August, Santa Barbara has “Fiesta”. A monsterous celebration of the Old Spanish Days. In a nut shell, you drink cerveza’s and tequila for 5 straight days with little to no food. Then you ride cruiser bikes all over the place.

Needless to say, I drink tequila only once a year.

Date? No.

Victim…uhhhh, if I said no would you believe me?
