Good reading in this thread ~ On a side note about books, have you read any books by Lee Child Bartl?
Oh, this thread is beautiful!
The last time I followed Bartl and Gus (hey, that sounds like a wine cooler), I was dieting down with them.
This time, I’m enjoying a big assed steak while trying to put on some mass. This time is far more entertaining ![]()
Good luck to both of you!

I tested mine by holding my 10lb sledge while standing on it and it measured up, so I guess this is as accurate as I’ll get =)

Not to be a stickler… but of course it would weigh “you” plus 10lbs… I’m saying when weighing “you” initially it may be up to 10 lbs low… as my exact same scale is 6-8 lbs lower haven’t side by side tested but I did weigh myself on another as well as had another person do the same… that scale is crap.
just warning you in a weightloss challenge don’t make your final weigh-in on anything but that crappy scale, otherwise you could seem ‘heavier’ than you are… when in actuality you were always 6-8 lbs heavier but your measuring tool sucks the hog.
Keep up the good work ![]()
First the bad news:
There is a raging fire 6 miles from my house. Evacuations are possible as helo’s and airplanes are going crazy trying to put it out…stay tuned!
Now for the good news:
I don’t need surgery…yet.
Doc said nothing “major” was seen on the MRI which is a good thing but it doesn’t explain the pain. He said to be careful with the foam roller but keep it up.
He also said to lay off any type of loading for my legs and stick with BW stuff.
So…
with that being said, I am at a crossroads for my training. These complexes are highly focused on leg movements. Do I keep going with the complexes but use only the upper body movements and add some crazy leg circuit at the end (if TC would run my damn article on Alwyn Cosgrove you would understand).
OR
Should I go to more of an EDT focus on upper body but change the lower body portions to focus mostly on BW exercises?
Let the open forum begin…

I have not but a recommendation goes a long way in my book (no pun intended), so I will check him out.

I once weighed a load I shot after sex. It didn’t weigh 10 pounds but Peter North would have been proud!

I’d go with the EDT focus on the upper body. Sign up for Charles Staley’s and get this free E-book. There is a chapter in there co-authored by Alwyn called “EDT for Fat Loss”, so look at that and make the nessecary adjustments. You can also check my old thread towards the later half.
Can you still do intervals on the bike and elliptical? Throwing those in after an upper body EDT or complex workout is an option.

I’m with Sayjin. Cosgrove’s leg complexes are intense (trust me :D) and while body weight, are still fairly high impact. Go with the EDT focus for now, give your knee some time to see what it’s going to do and then re-evaluate again in a few weeks.

Greetings and salutation faithful challenge viewers!
I know I’ve been absent as of lately, but I’ll be making a return in full force on Monday. Due to life circumstanecs, I’ve been making some changes to my nutrition plan this week in order to gradually transition into the full blown plan that I plan on introducing.
In light of that, I’m going to the gym today to see what my deadlift is looking like, and if it doesn’t bother my knee then its going to be the corner stone of my new program. I’m still trying to figure out what exercises I can and can’t do, but since everything is closed this weekend I wont have access to the internet until Monday. Rest assured that when I do get the net back I’ll be posting both the workout plan and food outline, and come next Monday Mr. Bartl will suffer another crippling defeat by my hands - SHO NUFF!
Jeeze walking wounded around here. Instead of DL comp at the end maybe you should make it bench or military press, something you guys can both still activly train? Good luck to both of you.

I’m down for a bench comp but I would want to make one little caveat…you can’t bench at all during your training.

Now you gotta be specific, does that include incline, decline, DB etc or is that just no flat bench? I like the idea, you fellas should make that happen. Would it be percentage of body weight or straight up lb for lb?
No worries, since benching isn’t in my current program anyways. Actually, to tell you the truth, I almost don’t even want to do a bench competition. We’re already pretty jacked up as it is, and to go from not benching to trying to throw up a big 1RM in August seems to be asking for trouble.
Lets wait until later down the line to see what we want to do.
keep it going lads!
how about something completly crazy…
like a flexibility test?
VO2 Test?
or a timed BW circuit?

I think I speak for myself as well as Bartl when I say that a man vs man flexibility test might very well be the gayest thing in North America. We’ll probably shoot some ideas back and forth via PM and let everyone know what the dealio is when we come to some sort of conclusion.
So I’m back and ready for action.
Since my last post I took sometime off from lifting and just ate.
And ate.
And ate.
I had every wonderful tasting food that had been haunting my mind for many months now, and it everything I imagined it would be and more. One day I even woke up and slammed back a full serving of Surge for breakfast! The best part about it was that I had no carb induced sleep fests or bloating. The library was closed all this weekend, so I used this time to catch up on my sleep…averaging about 10-11hrs a night.
I weighed in at 192 this morning, and since I’m going for body recomposition at this point, I dont have any intention of winning the numbers game come next Monday, but I’m still shooting for less bodyfat by our set end date.

This is the barebones of my program, but I’ll be updating this again tonight once I get off work because I left the sheet I wrote everything down on at home.
So its been a while since I posted. Here are your choices:
A. I’ve been surfing quite a bit and been on the road driving looking for waves. Also, spent a lot of time soul searching and becoming one with the earth and my dog being a solitary man.
B. Training my ass of so much that I have no time during the day to want to do anything else. Man, triathlon training takes up a lot of time
C. pounding ass like its nobody’s business
D. Drinking and bbq’ing almost everyday, sprinkle in a little training (complexes) and working a shit load of hours in either of my 3 new jobs.
Let the games begin!
all of the above ?
