Bartl vs. Sayjin: A Fat Loss Challenge

Here is complex #4 from today:

4 sets of 5 reps, 95 lbs, no rest between movements:

A1) Jump Squat
A2) Full Squat
A3) Squat and Hold (10 seconds)
A4) Military Press
A5) Push Press
A6) Full Squat Press

The squat and holds did not feel good on the knee. That coupled with the soreness from yesterday’s session made it kind of uncomfortable to train today. But I did and had a grand old time doing it. Plus I got some sun, so I was stoked.

Now I’m off to do my walk for the day then maybe wind down with a cold beer before beddy bye time.

Chris, when you say no rest between movements, are you doing A1 for 5 reps, A2 for 5 reps, etc. and after the sixth rep of A6 is completed, that is one set, then rest?

If so, I could see the 10s squat hold definitely being painful on the knees as you said.

Hope the knee gets better soon.

i did complex C with 115 today in the back yard i really thought i was gonna puke, at the end i just layed on the cement looking at the sky for like 10 minutes.

Complex D doesnt look too much fun either.

There you have it folks, your recipe for complete jitteryness (I just made up that word).[/quote]

A quick google search yields about 4,480 results for jitteryness in just 0.06 seconds - consider yourself served!

I hope you’re off to a better start than I am, Chris. Weighed in at 189.5 this morning, but in my dumbass defense I weighed myself after breakfast because I woke up at 4am in a ravenous frenzy and had my eggs,Grow Whey and broccoli before I realized what day it was. Since I technically didnt weigh in at less than 188, I didn’t treat myself to an epic feast, but I reckon that if I had weighed myself before breakfast I’d have been about 187.5.

Time to reintroduct the HRX.

P.S.

How do y’all like my hobbit feet?

New tools of the trade - Improvised Heavy Bag

Since my roomate from my old apartment asked me to hold his stuff for a few days, but has yet to pick it up after 10 months, I figured I’d put this extra matress to use.

Tire, 10lb sledge, and 225lbs of sand in a duffle bag to hold down the tire while I pound away. I’m glad I live on the ground floor of my apartment.

Waterball, among other tools of the trade. Thanks for the foam roller idea Chris…hopefully it helps me avoid surgery.

Isometric device and 20lb homemade medicine ball.

Now that I’ve found ways to work around my knee, prepare yourself Chris - you’re entering a world of pain!

Same thing happened to me but I actually had to swallow some stuff back at the end of Complex C.

D was a tough one too but not too close to vomiting

At least I didn’t go up in weight but I didn’t really drop either.

Sayjin, you don’t have to worry about trying to bring the pain, I plan on doing that myself.

Not a happy camper this morning.

Monday July 14th will be the next weigh in. Lets kick it up a notch and give our readers something worth looking at. I assure you that in 2 weeks I’ll be giving you some worthy competition.

I tested mine by holding my 10lb sledge while standing on it and it measured up, so I guess this is as accurate as I’ll get =)

Your big toe on your right foot looks especially hobbit-ish  So Sayjin… I can officially back squat you and your hobbit feet… Bartl and his hobbit feet are up next (Note: I do not actually know if Bartl has hobbit feet… I don’t think so though).

PS. I’m apparently not a demon psychic. I’m quite alright with that though.

Use any cliche you want:

salt in an open wound
more gasoline to the fire
my cock is bigger than yours…wait, thats not a cliche.

nevermind.

The point is I am not quite sure how to take my doctor’s appointment today but I am bummed.

I didn’t see some joe blow General Practioner. No, I saw an Orthopedic Surgeon who happens to be one of the best in Santa Barbara.

I stopped counting the amount of times he said surgery. It became futile after about 10.

His prognosis (in a nutshell): don’t stop doing what your doing, but you are prolly going to need surgery. Sad thing is, I might not be able to do my race in August because of it.

He is not sure whats wrong in there but he didn’t like the way it felt in any tests or pattern movements. MRI is trying to be scheduled for later next week and then I should know in most likely two weeks what the deal is. His gut is telling him there is some good cartalidge tears in there and is about 50-50 that there is some ligament damage.

that was my day. on top of the fact that I didn’t go down in weight, I didn’t have a good day.

Hopefully when the sun rises, so will a better day.

Wow man…I’m genuinely sorry to hear about that news. If you can, try to push physical therapy as a first option before immediately jumping to the surgery. My knee is doing a lot better right now, thanks to the PT and the foam rolling idea I got from you, and I can even squat to parallel now with less pain.

Some good news…MRI is tomorrow and I meet with my Ortho a little later.

So, I will either be really happy or really drunk tomorrow evening.

Ok, I’m gonna get a little emo on you for a spell.

I just had another friend’s family member pass away. That makes the fourth person to die in my circle of friends in the past month.

To me, its extra important for me to be there for my friend because I don’t have any grandparents left. While 3 of the 4 were grandparents, it shouldn’t really matter.

Call your family and tell them that you are thinking about them. If you don’t talk to your family anymore, check your problems at the door, be the bigger person and reach out to them.

I talk to my family multiple times during the week. Sometimes its nothing more than to say hello for the fourth time that week. I know it makes them feel good and it makes me feel good as well.

Enough soft stuff, here is the session from today:

5 sets, 5 reps, 75 seconds rest between sets, 115 pounds:

A1) Bent-Over Row
A2) Hang Clean
A3) Front Squat/Push Press Combo
A4) Jump Squat
A5) Good Mornings

Not only did I have to add another rep AND cut down in the rest periods, but I also went up in weight by 20 pounds.

yikes!

115 was definitely pushing my limits on this complex. I stopped doing jump squats for the last two sets as it was starting to bother my knee trying to explode from such a deep position. So I just did normal squats and those didn’t hurt too bad. The good mornings were another story. 115 was way too much to load for me to handle but I like the movement. So I think next week I will take the bar off my back and just do a normal straight leg dead lift.

Overall, a pretty good day. I didn’t have time to prep all my food, so I added a 1/2 C cottage cheese in there. I moved my morning chicken to lunch and didn’t have any shrimp.

I just finished off my Surge Recovery and am going to start the new Clive Cussler book. If you have not read any of his stuff, you are missing out.
