Bands I Hate

This thread has restored my faith in humanity. Here’s a couple reasons why:

 • We have all debated and brought up very good points for and against certain bands sucking with very minimal personal attacks.

 • No one has mentioned Iron Maiden as a band they hate. And there have been some pretty outlandish claims. Iron Maiden is band that, it seems, that no one hates. This makes me have faith that we can all unite around one common cause that, no matter what, Iron Maiden will be unity and balance to the force.

Sorry, forgot to mention them.

JK, I don’t really HATE any bands, but there are a lot that don’t really grab me. Iron Maiden is one of them.

So is Neil Peart. Very reluctant to sign autographs and travels everywhere with Rush’s security manager who blocks anyone within a 5 meter radius from approaching him.

I think Alex Lifeson says it best…“We all try to be pricks, but aside from Neil we just aren’t very good at it”

Any band that was formed after 1985, with the exception of maybe RATM and the Travelling Wilburys.

I especially hate Kid Rock for bastardizing songs by both Lynryd Skynryd and Warren Zevon into something which both artists would probably have hated.

Damn, and I thought I was a big fan!

sweet! no one mentioned avenged sevenfold as a band they hate…

I think theyre too mainstream now, waking the fallen is still my favorite album front to back.

X 1,000,000,000 on Godsmack sucking. Godsmack and Nickelback are the bands I imagine some dumb fuckin white trash people listen to. I also hate Stone Temple Pilots, I heard some new shit by them and it sucks. I used to listen to Sublime back when but now I hate them because I hate their fans. Dave Matthews blows, Phish sucks. Oh yeah Bush is like the Nickelback of the late 90’s.

More suck:

Velvet Revolver
Saliva
Disturbed
Drowning Pool
Avenged Sevenfold
Linkin Park

Come on man, don’t lose faith in humanity. There are a lot of great post-1985 bands/musicians. Nine Inch Nails? The White Stripes? Tool? The Red Hot Chili Peppers? Pantera? Slayer? Machinehead? Alice In Chains? Nirvana? Wu-Tang Clan? Beck? Nas? Cypress Hill? Public Enemy? Hieroglyphics? The Roots?

I gotta find that Moon solo, thanks for the teaser Pimpbot5000. I also remember reading somewhere that Buddy Rich was a right cunt to fans.

Bonham was rumored to be the hardest drummer around. No one would lend him their kits because it would come back just thrashed. His heel/toe/heel bass drum technique is genius like others here mentioned.

I watched the Chickenfoot DVD awhile back and although I’m still not crazy about them it was worth it just to watch Chad Smith play and he’s nuts off camera lol.
Bonham played so hard and loud that Ludwig had to make special tom stands just for him because he kept breaking the normal ones. Most people use a 22x20 bass drum, but he had Ludwig custom-make one for him that was 26x14!

He used the biggest sticks out there (2A) and when he was recorded in the studio, they put the mics about ten feet away rather than right in front of him. Or he’d play in the stairwell at Headley Grange and they’d mic him from ten feet above. That’s how he gets that slightly echoed sound on When The Levee Breaks.

He was also innovative in that he constantly tuned his own kits and helped Ludwig in the construction of their heads and cymbals, something that apparently no other drummer did back then.
… And if you listen close enough on many recordings, you can hear Bonham’s annoyingly squeaky kick-pedal!

Yeah, like Since I’ve Been Loving You. I’d love to hear how they would have sounded if Rick Rubin had produced them today, in much the same no-frills, no studio effects way he produced Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik.

Can’t say I care for any of those bands particularly. The White Stripes aren’t so bad. I’m more of a CCR/The Band/E Street Band kind of guy. I suppose there are a few around now that are good, I like Old Crow Medicine Show (check out Wagon Wheel on Youtube), and theres this new guy called Joe Pug who is unbelievable - his lyrics are probably the best I’ve ever heard. Everyone should do themselves a favour and check him out.

EDIT: Beck is OK too!

Sorry to say boys and girls, I cant Workout to Rock, metal, or any alternative.
I was raised on the likes of Metallica, AC/DC, Scorpions, Van Halen, but cannot train to them at all.
I will say, noting beats Metallica -one…And Disturbed really gets me going too.

I am a strong supporter of Trance, Hard House, and Hard Dance.
I have been compiling a list of rip your arms off great hard dance music that Is from Holland, and other great spots in Europe.

The force fed radio crap of the 80’s and 90’s where I live in the middle of nowhere, lead me to hate all POP music. I used to spend crazy amounts of money when I was younger to Import CD’S from Europe, just to keep my sanity. I download everything now, and have been since '99.

Becasue I have traveled all over the world to go to gigs with this music with 40,000 people in attendance is fundamentally why I need it for training all the time.

I find long sets like this keep me focused, and intense for the whole time I’m at the gym, no waiting for the next song…

I challenge you to get these tracks and tell me how much you hate or like them.
These are 1 to 2 hour recordings of live sets at Raves or Dance events in the world.
Sure not every minute is hard and fast, but overall guaranteed to increase your breathing, raise your heart rate, and push harder…

Mauro Picotto Live at Gatecrasher NEC 2002
Trance Energy 2004 - Johan Gielen Feb
A State Of Trance 450 - Sean Tyas (Toronto)
Dynamic Intervention Mixed Up 2002
Darcy Klein - Back with a Vengeance

For some single tracks I suggest:

Anything from Deadmau5, such as “FML”, “The reward is Cheese”
Anything from BK, Dynamic Intervention, Sean Tyas, Simon Patterson

Just my point of view!
Happy training!

Bonham … The bass drum triplet? He practically invented it.

Clyde Stubblefield, Mitch Mitchell, and Ginger Baker (and a whole host of bebop jazz drummers, like from the 40s-50s) would probably disagree with you on this point.

(Psst! That’s OK, though… Eddie Van Halen didn’t invent two-hand guitar tapping, either. He didn’t even “practically” invent it…)

I think he liked to think he did…didn’t he used to turn his back to the crowd so no one could see how he was doing it?

I remember seeing a black dude on a talk show like Merv Griffin or something tapping before I ever heard EVH doing it. The guy never strummed once just tapped the whole time. Never saw him again but he sure was smooth.

Stanley Jordan?

Everybody likes Maiden. I speak for all 6+ billion of us here on planet Earth. Even the Pygmy tribes of Papua New Guinea rock out to “Run to the Hills”
