Bagsy's Training Log

Mostly just anecdata (a phd friend yells about the plural of anecdote not being data, which I really enjoy) of the sides being worse. It seems to be marginally better at protection and is supposed to be administered a bit quicker too, which doesn’t hurt. Would’ve been perfectly happy with any of them, though.

Right, I’m hoping for 0 sides so I can take a nice day off but I’m more than happy to have sides considering the benefits I’m receiving.

Those are true, not sure the difference is that big though. It is encouraging to read that Pfizer is protecting against newer variants of the virus though.

My arm aches from the vaccine though not a huge deal. The heaviest set on squats looked much faster than it felt. It’ll be cool and a bit nerve-wracking to eventually use my 45s with this bar in a couple cycles. Also, I forgot how much better single leg work is with an SSB.

5 hill sprints at the park followed by easy 1600m run

I finally got a good night’s sleep, but my legs were absolute toast from yesterday. My back is also pretty sore. I don’t know how I did the conditioning. I need to relax the next couple days.

So the program asks for undulating weights. I love this shit, but usually with bigger jumps. I’ll check into this

I actually dislike it. I’m much more of a straight set or ramping up to an AMRAP kind of person. But I’m warming up to it a little bit. It’s actually cool how much faster the second 80% set moves.

When your bench max is 110 pounds, there isn’t much room for bigger absolute jumps

85 => 95 is essentially equivalent to 315 => 352 which is definitely a significant jump for a working set

Yep, the difference in bar speed is huge. I assumed @aldebaran already took the percentages into account though

No I completely looked past that at the time I must admit

I still don’t think I’ve gained much if any pressing strength the past many months. Today the first two reps with 65 moved fast enough to convince me to go for and complete a grindy triple, so I guess that’s a step in the right direction. The running is terrible, but it will be cool to get into the 6s soon.

Awesome lifts as always.
Idk what to say about press. I’ve brutally attacked press every friday since late December and the progress has been… slow.

I think I’m going to try Easy Strength after this and see if pressing 4-5 times per week speeds things up a bit.

There are 5/3/1 templates biased toward pressing over benching, or can be modified in that way. You could maybe try one of those. Do you have Forever?

Sorry for the random interjection, but what does fitting in fitness look like as a PhD student? just curious

No need to apologize. I do a lot of training on the weekend. During the week, I wake up, work for three hours from home, train if it is not a rest day, and eat. Then I go to work in lab the rest of the day.

I bet it will!

I have Beyond, not forever, so I’ve recently realized I’m missing out on a ton of templates!
It doesn’t seem to be available on Kindle though…
5/3/1 is in my future, but for now I’m continuing this stupid simple plan that I’m doing. Progress is slow but its there…

25 minute run. My GPS botched for about the first half, but it was somewhere between 4 and 5 km. I made the huge mistake of wearing a jacket for this. Then 50 band pull aparts.

Can’t believe (nor really understand why) you’re still deadlifting double overhand, haha.

Also, I’m really close to buying this now that it’s on sale…

What’s holding me back is that I don’t need a KB. Plates would be a better purchase. I STILL haven’t received my tax refund yet, but I could afford it

I don’t know, I guess I’m just used to it because I never knew anything else. It’s not that bad when I use chalk. Again, if I were using a standard men’s barbell, I probably couldn’t rely on double overhand
