Got that right. It sucks. But you definitely get used to it. I rather get a deficit done quickly rather than gradually. My idea is that a deficit is damaging enough to my performance and probably to my well-being regardless of the amount, so the sooner I get out of it, the better.

And honestly, I like meat, fish, and eggs a lot. I couldn’t imagine eating less protein, especially when losing weight.

Amazing progress!

I haven’t been following your log very closely- are you cutting?

Fair enough. If you can’t imagine it then I don’t imagine any words of mine would convince you to try or reconsider anything

@anna_5588 If you’re talking about the weight on the bar, I have made absolutely no progress in several months due to weight loss.

@Voxel Even if I didn’t like animal protein as much as I do, I don’t think decreasing it in a deficit would be a good idea performance- or compliance-wise. But yeah, even though I don’t feel super lean I’m ending it soon, so I don’t think whatever I do will have a significant impact either way. Thanks for checking in though!

Empirical evidence with your own body will always triumph what a stranger over the internet is writing.

Could you elaborate?

I generally feel right at a baseline level of protein. In this context, I feel that any performance benefit of increased carbs at the expense of protein would be smaller than the disadvantage of decreasing protein. Sure, carbs can definitely enhance performance, and I like carbs (even more so than fats). But I suspect the benefits gained from them are on top of that baseline protein intake. If I wanted to take as much advantage of that combo, I might not lose bodyfat as fast as I would like or at all. I’ve lost weight more slowly in the past and included more starch, and my performance always drops about the same amount in the deficit anyway.

Felt wonky today. Feeling a knot in my upper back, so I cut pull ups short. Really seems like I dogged it on everything. Meh, gonna slog through the final 2 sessions.

Legs trashed from the single leg work on Wednesday, and my back is still knotted. I decided to skip Sunday’s session and to deload now. I think a week off from heavy lifting will fare well for me. This past month of weight loss also hasn’t been super successful. Remaining around 118-119 now, and while I wish I could have become a bit leaner, I think my time would be better spent in a surplus again. 10 pounds lost in 11 weeks isn’t bad at all (but probably a lot of water), and I’m by no means overweight for my height. Chronically undermuscled though.

Also getting a lot of bloodwork done tomorrow, which should be good since I haven’t had any done in years. Looking forward to that.

Heheh, I just had my blood work done a couple weeks ago. All came back good except for slightly elevated cholesterol, so my wife has been policing my bacon consumption since then… :frowning:

This website is freaky when someone changes their username. It’s like I have false memories.

@OTHSteve I’m fortunate enough to have had consistently fantastic numbers on general panels and lipid profiles in the past. However, I don’t think bacon should be demonized regarding cholesterol stuff.

@jjoes Kinda abrupt for sure, haha. Sorry for that!

Weather is great today so finished off with 5 hill sprints.

I agree with you in general terms, but I also know how much bacon I would eat if completely left to my own devices… I’ve only eaten 3 full pounds of bacon over the last 2 weeks, which is an improvement. That, and butter.

If one were living off of solely bacon and butter, that’s one thing. But I truthfully don’t think these things, even in somewhat higher quantities, are the primary culprit.

TBH, the primary culprit is probably genetics combined with age, but if minor diet modifications can keep me from going on medication to control it, I’m all for it. Don’t worry, I’m not going cold turkey, I’m just exercising a bit of restraint…

In the nutrition space I’m a fan of people like Robb Wolf.

Yeah, don’t do that. Turkey bacon just doesn’t cut it.

Badum -tsss!

Totally agree, I’m opposed in principle to things like turkey ‘bacon’ and boneless ‘wings’. Call them what they are! Ground, pressed turkey strips and flavored chicken nuggets.

I’m with you, but I don’t follow any specific diet. I still eat mostly fat and protein, with plenty of vegetables, but I also don’t shy away from copious amounts of carbs on occasion.
