Speaking of awful, last night/this morning has been terrible. I got 2ish hours of sleep. Woke up at 12:40 and couldn’t go back to sleep. Still can’t. While I can mentally handle the deficit, I think my body is rebelling. The epitome of “tired but wired.” My weight loss has been slow the past couple weeks, and I haven’t had a refeed in 13 days. I also don’t feel like I’m looking any better. So, I’m gonna refeed the next two days to try restoring my hormonal state temporarily. Looking forward to some sweet potatoes and rice.
That degree of restriction is sad!
My wife is allergic to dairy, so there is never milk in the house; the kids and I eat pizza though, and I periodically sneak milk at work.
But to give up bread… I don’t eat a ton of it, but the list of foods-with-no-gluten is too short for me!
I gotta say sweet potatoes are amazing though. I hope you load them with (dairy-free alternative) butter and brown sugar!
Yeah I’m in exactly the same situation right now… I’ve started watching “Full day of eating” videos of bodybuilders on pre-contest diets just so that I have something to relate to it’s sad I know
No, I very much acknowledge it, I just usually leave it unsaid… The majority of people are self-serving and awful, which is why democracy is the worst possible form of government, except for all the other forms of government.
@jdm135 I don’t find it super restrictive. I find the digestive discomfort from eating those foods even sadder. I also don’t even think I’d want to eat bread again… it doesn’t taste like anything.
Gotta say that sweet potatoes with almond butter is the superior combination though.
@garagerocker13 Yeah, I’ve done a greater degree of not listening to my body in the past, so I would hate to be a hypocrite. I probably try a smaller deficit, but I rather get it done sooner rather than later. It’s very not fun.
If you’re reasonably lean and have been dieting awhile, it’s a good idea. Especially if you have a lot of stress in everyday life on top. And yeah, it should feel weird. Almost shed a tear as I finally ate rice again. Okay, maybe a little dramatic there. But still.
Feeling like a human being today… I slept so much. 11 hours. I don’t think I’ve ever slept that long before. Woke up super hungry, so I think my metabolism is figuring itself out again. Probably a good move.
I also ultimately decided that trying something different from 5/3/1 could be good for me. I got the JTS 2.0 E-Book, and it sounds up my alley yet different enough to feel refreshing. Gonna try this next after I finish my current cycle and deload.
Sounds like you are running your carbs quite low. Are you calorie-counting/meal-planning or playing it by ear?
On the subject of (clean) refeeds I’m a proponent. Ending up in a surplus one day is far less detrimental to (my) fat loss effort than poor sleep and subpar training. Also a fan of calorie cycling, and which strategy is “best” kind of depends on whatever the time horizon is for the diet. My least favourite option is removing X calories from all days although I’ll acknowledge that it is one option and that it has an “average” time horizon.
I don’t count calories. I pretty much eat the same foods every day, so there isn’t much planning needed. Low carbs indeed, only getting them from ~2 fruits each day and a touch of honey I add to tea. Getting all fats only from animal proteins.
I agree. I was previously having 1 refeed day (or at least evening) per week, but the past couple weeks I decided to skip it. I think that backfired. I don’t think it helps my training much, but hormonally and psychologically it’s good. Now I don’t feel like a zombie, my body doesn’t hate me, and I’m extra motivated to finish out the last 2 or so weeks of this.
Between that and two fruits that’s not a lot of energy going in.
I’ve done better personally by trading some protein for some other macro. Not sure if you can make that work for you, or make it fit with your caloric intake, but might be worth considering.
