Yeah, the program overall suits me well right now. And if pressing three times per week helps even a little bit, then even better!

Didn’t eat much for most of the weekend. I tried to make up for it a little bit last night, but that top deadlift set was harder than I would have liked. Today my belt felt the loosest maybe ever? Planning to do some hill sprints this afternoon despite the heat.
PM
Five hill sprints + 1200m cooldown
Oof, I hope I can reacclimate to the heat soon. It wasn’t even that hot or humid, but this totally sucked, and now I am drenched. Hopefully I get a nice tan… the only upside of summer.

Final training day for a few weeks. Weirdly, I fit into the ninth hole of my belt for a few sets, and that was after a very late night at a friend’s house that featureda fair portion of barbeque. I think I will return to this program when I come back because it still aligns with my schedule in the near future, but I have time to deliberate.
Tomorrow I’m going to Germany, which I’ve been waiting to do for nearly half of my life. I might do some bodyweight movements while I’m there, but there’s also a good chance that I won’t. Lots of walking though.
Wooo, have a great time!
I am so excited to hear how you’re travelling is going snd all the more sad that the schedule didn’t work out and I didn’t get to meet you. I was honestly excited!
Thanks! Next time for sure. ![]()

Got home yesterday and pulled my first ever all-nighter due to the terribly long transit. The trip was a dream, and most importantly I can say there is a nonzero chance that I will seek a postdoc (or whatever other position if I decide to stray from academia) in a German-speaking country.
Didn’t do any type of training but consistently walked 20k+ steps nearly every day, including when I met one of my language partners in person and we strolled for 40k steps (25 km) in one day.

Also had what may have been the best meal of my life on my final night
Overall the trip was much-needed and not only because I was desperate for a vacation. I didn’t use any English for my whole time there and was even mistaken for a local on many occasions, which was awesome.
But I am happy to get back to training now
gonna start lifting again tomorrow or Friday
Welcome back, @Bagsy! So glad to see these pictures and live vicariously thorough you, haha.
I did something similar in the weeks leading up to my final dissertation push: spent quite awhile abroad, came home, got motivated, wrote like a banshee, and defended a few months later. It was just what I needed to clear my head, recenter my thinking, and get done.
I’m not sure where you are in your studies, but I hope you experience a similar burst of productivity now that you’re back.
Thanks again for sharing the photos!
Welcome back!!!
That’s awesome!
I’ve been involved in a server with some German academics, apparently the requirements for permenant residence are not too high
You certainly meet the language requirement
So glad to hear about your positive experience! Definitely telll me if you come back!
Are you telling me you had the best meal of your life and it was a bloody Dönerteller? ![]()
Please ask me for meal recommendations next time.
Thanks! Another positive side effect is that the trip revived my passion for photography. I think I took more photos on the trip than I had in the past 2.5 years combined!
Thanks for sharing. It is so comforting to remind yourself that there is more to the world than academia and your local surroundings, haha. I am not that far along, as I am proposing my thesis in a couple of months (yikes!), but like you suggest, I feel better able to attack that now.
Now I have to catch up on your log among others!
Thanks for the words! Definitely a good idea to look into that even though I still have a while left here. The thing is that Switzerland would be a better fit for my field, but I am not sure I would want to live there.
Thanks! Believe me, I was already mentally planning my return while still there.
Yes
this is my favorite type of cuisine, truthfully. At least I was careful to choose the local favorite. The atmosphere played a role as well; I value that a lot when I eat out. But maybe you can show me your favorite whenever I visit again!

I am repeating the last cycle to get back into things and also because I did not finish it anyway. I’ll probably stick with this for a little while again; I have a small trip planned for the end of July, and work will busy me again. I might dive into another dose of hard training near the end of summer if logistics allow.
I feel compelled to, Bagsy!
Let me explain why this is funny to me: Döner is basically what you eat when you a) have your lunch break and no prepped food available orr b) you return at 4 am from a night out at the pubs/ clubs and get the cravings, haha. I bet there is a statistic that confirms my thesis. If not I shall write my next academic piece on that!
Just having a bit of fun with you of course, no ill intents. Döner is a fine fast food and we all eat it regularly. Funnily enough it’s much more popular here than in it’s country of origin.

For some reason my location tracker would not work. I reckon this is something like 5x300m though.
Keep in mind you’d have to accommodate for a gluten-free person.
I don’t not believe you! I knew it was cheap fast food before I went. Truthfully, it was one of the best things I have ever eaten, and I think others would agree with me based on the reviews I read. But I also hadn’t had authentic Middle Eastern food in a long time. There was a fair amount where I grew up, but I still do not think those restaurants could compare to this place. I have not lived in a place as an adult where I can indulge in such cuisine. Doesn’t surprise me that it’s more popular there than at its origin.
Ultimately though it was nice to soak in the atmosphere, feel so at ease with myself, and enjoy the meal, even though I was simultaneously heartbroken knowing that I had to leave the next day. It might sound naive, but I had a sense of belonging.
Sweden’s post-drinking and fast-food culture was largely focused on kebab, as well. It was my first, second and third choice when I lived there, Germany definitely does it better though. And now i’m craving street meats at 9:19 on a Friday morning.

Everything was difficult. I’m very sore, but body comp is slowly returning I think. I slept for over ten hours last night, which is wild. Not surprising considering my sleep and digestion were off for quite a while, plus the all-nighter I pulled this week. Hoping my strength is restored soon.
Eh, maybe I’m doing your dish injustice if it was something authentic and a local hot spot, who knows. I’ll be sure to introduce you to some German specialties if I get the chance though! Although I would first have to find out what exactly contains gluten. Luckily I never had to look into that myself.
Im late to the party here, but congratulations on an incredible trip. So happy for you!
