Back

Hey,
I’ve been working out for some time now on and off, but i find when i increase intensity and stop for a while, my back hurts like a son of a bitch when I lie (mid-lower back) down or sit for long periods of time (upper-mid back). I also get it bad in the morning as well mostly in my mid back. I am currently sitting exams at the moment so that could be reason, but it was happening before that as well…does anyone have any ways to stop back pains, apart from taking painkillers or seeing a doctor, coz i dont think its that serious.

Do good mornings and stretch when you get up, and deadlift. It worked for me.

I’ve had similar problems for a while now. In the morning it helps to hop in the hot tub or just a hot bath, it warms up the muscles and improves flexibility. It sounds to me like when you increase intensity you’re re-injuring the muscles each time. Usually that means they spasm painfully as a reaction to the injury(its a way of your muscles getting you to leave them alone). Spasms work kinda in a circular motion, you get a bad one and it bothers you muscles more, so they spasm again and again. I work at a doctors office, so I have access to alot of free sample medication. One I’ve found helpful is flexeril, ask your doc about it. Its a muscle relaxer, so I don’t like taking it during the day as it makes me drowsy. If I get a spasm in my back though, I take one or two before I go to bed and in the morning all is good again.

It most likely either bad form(usually due to bad flexibility in legs), not warming up enough, or doing too much weight that caused the injury in the first place, so be sure to be careful about those so it doesn’t happen again or get worse.
