Back Squat vs Zercher Squat: Two Questions

Hey strongmen, two quick questions.

Which variation of the squat do you feel has more carryover to Strongman, the back squat or the zercher squat?

Also, which variation allows for more weight to be lifted?

Never really got anything out of Zerchers but bruises.

I say back squat. I’m having good success back squatting twice a week…one day I go heavy, in a wide stance, with belt and knee wraps; the other day I go somewhat lighter, go for 50-60 reps with a narrow stance (DL and Push press feet position) with no belt or wraps.

Good luck

You can definitely squat more than Zercher. They have different carry overs, Zerchers are great for pick ups like atlas stones, squat is, well, great for everything. I’d say predominately squat with some occasional Zercher.

Most people can do a lot more weight on the back squat.

Zercher is much more dependent on back strength for me… since I have a weak back I prefer to do Zerchers to strengthen that in relation to my legs.

Although I like to alternate safety bar squat and zercher.

I do a lot of Zerchers from the floor myself since I don’t have access to a power rack. Seems like it would be a valuable strongman training tool. Zerchers also seem to give a lot more core stability for me. I Zerchered 255x5 the other day, and I’m curious as to what I could put up on the back squat.

Hi! First of all, zercher’s squat is perfect core strengthening excercise, so I was trying to max it to build up my core couple months ago … I zerchered almost the same what I was able to squat:

Zercher’s squat: 4 x 297lbs; 1 x 352lbs
Squat: 4 x 319 lbs; 1 x 352 lbs
