Back Squat/Sumo DL Form Check

So I finally switched from only doing back squats to doing both front and back squats. I’m back squatting twice per week (one “DE” and one “ME”) and front squatting once per week. I think my front squat form is pretty solid, but I can’t seem to get the form right for back squats.

Video has a set of front squats (for comparison) then four progressively heavier sets of back squats. I think my major issue is staying upright/falling forward. I have pretty long legs (but relatively short height) so I find it difficult to not let me knees extend past my toes (not sure if that’s an issue as I don’t feel anything in my knees, at least right now) and to stay upright.

After the squats is a quick shot of my sumo deadlift from earlier today. Wondering if my shins should be more upright or if they seem okay.

Any feedback/advice is much appreciated. I should also note that Iâ??m not opposed to trying different stances, different grips, or different bar positions.

Alright man, I will be having an eye on this thread for whenever the vid comes up

Nope, I can’t see anything. Is it on youtube or something. If so - is there a link?

EDIT: Using Chrome.

It was made in iMovie so it’s .m4v format. I can upload it to youtube and try uploading it again in a few hours.

Stop putting your ass that far back. You have probably read too many articles about “how to squat” by geared lifters. It’s correct that you have to stick your ass back like Dolly Duck when doing geared low-bar squats, but you shouldn’t with your style. It looks as you are trying to do olympic high-bar squats, is that correct? If so, sit straight down and keep your back straight. You also lose a lot of power this way by lengthening your glutes and abs, kinda putting them out of play. Do you feel weak under the bar?

Don’t get me wrong, your squat isn’t bad. You seem very flexible and there are just minor tweaks that needs to be done.

Yeah, ideally I want to keep an olympic high-bar squat style because I have a lower back injury that I would like to prevent from ever flaring back up. One of my issues (if it’s an issue) is that with a closer stance, my knees track way over my toes. I also have a difficult time sitting straight down and keeping my back straight in the back squat, but not at all in the front squat. I definitely feel weak under the bar, it’s a struggle to hold the position you see in the video.

Lately (i.e. in the video) I widened my stance, pointed my toes out, and tried to focus on pushing my knees out, but I really hate how weak I feel. I wasn’t sure if it was just something I had to get used to.
