Saturday: Quick session at the Parlour Le’Pump (that’s French).
DB flat power flye: 2x10@ 40/ 4x10@50’s
Pull aparts: 100+
Leg Press: 5x15@ 400ish. Big, old, stack plate thing.
Straight leg calf work also…
Hanging leg raise mixed in: 3x5/ 3x10.
That is all. I was distracted by the Savory Taste of the bbq/chedddar burgers I planned on making after; delicious, and always Worth the Wait.
I forgot to log some stuff last Thursday; I said “I count everything”, and I meant it.
Inspired by a P.W. I know, I did the following:
Weighted Carries…say what now?
***40yrds + 70lbs med. ball.
*** same + 80lbs ball.
*** 2x 40yrds + 100lbs. sand bag.
Carried them high in front of chest, arms scooped under, hands up at eye level. Not bad, after all my pulling.
So 2 weeks from Chicago trip; 7 weeks out from my meet.
Oh boy.
Gives me 9 training days before I leave. Thinking (again) of going up to Monster Garage Gym while I’m there (about 45mins North of my family). Soak up some national/world record holding vides they got there. I’ll be going to the gym with my dad also; mostly just Bro-time bench and bi’s stuff of course.
Anyway; SQ Tuesday, then really looking forward to Thursday.
If I didn’t like a certain P. W. so much I would be giving you grief as I suspect you are withholding information from us but since I do carry on. ![]()
Monster Garage Gym sounds like a fun experience although I know how it is I have access to some unbelievable powerlifting facilities in my area and going always sounds like a great idea but I lift in my basement for convenience.
If Waukegan is 45 mins north, that prob puts your family in the near north or near west burbs, if not the city itself. Lmk if you want to train in the city and I’ll send you some free guest passes. The gym is on the north side just south of Rogers Park.
Everything you could possibly want including strongman equipment.
Dr. P: Cool you stopped by; enjoy misc. other posts/threads of yours. Parents are up in Highland Park/ Deerfield area. I appreciate the offer; heading North is just easier for me, and close to an old pal I’m hoping to see.
Dave: Why, whatever do you mean? Oh right, I forgot to mention.
7 weeks out; if that matters.
Tuesday: Worked SQ up to 4x1@ 275.
Paused SQ 3x3@ 225. Very little rest here, just blasting them up out of the hole.
Leg Press: 4x15@ 300
DB low Hammer: 2x15@ 50's
BE: worked up to 4x1@ 245. Lots of band work as always.
Later that night, at work;
Seated ohp: 10's @ 30,40, 50,50,50's
Hanging leg raise: 3x10.
Thursday, 10/20
Trained with a Fury of excitement today. Decided to do some lockout/overload on BE; pin presses to follow.
Seated Ham curl: 10@ 105,120/ 3 sets at 135. Constant tension/ hard squeeze.
Hanging leg: 3x10
Smith close stance: 2x6@ 185/ 3x6@225. Lowering slow, explode up.
Pulldowns: 6@ 105,120/ 3 sets @ 135.
BE/pin press: Measured it at 6" off chest, leaving me 6-7" from pins to lockout. So…Top 1/2 pin press it is!!
Worked up; 3x3@ 185, 2x3@ 225, 1x3@ 255,275,295…2 reps @ 315. Dug 315 out to lockout, and held it. Brought it down under control, touched pins, and pressed it back up to lockout. That was it.
Lockout was no problem, but I was SHAKING!!! at the top. Quite a shock to the system.
DB low incline: 8@ 50,60,70,80’s
Good times at the gym; better times after.
Friday- DL day.
DL: Worked up to EASY singles @ 335. Planned on 3’s @ 315; then the reps were popping off the ground, so I went for perfect set-up/ speed off the floor. 5x1@ 335.
Block, below knee: 4x3@ 315, all lockout power.
Seated hammer row: 2x6@ 225/ 3x4@ 245
OHP: 3’s @ 95,115, 3 sets@ 135
Lots-O- band work.
Good training day; very good non-training evening.
This is going by FAST…5 training days until Chicago Time. No, I’m not going anywhere near the City during the World Series:) I’m there in 12 days; maybe it’ll be over by then?? With a Cubs win???
So training is: Tues/ Thur/ Fri/ Sun/ Tues…leave next Thursday. A slight bump in volume/intensity before my trip, then a ‘deload’ during the trip, home for 3 weeks of Peaking and baked goods…and then the meet.
Simple, right??
And, I may do some drumming this week also; see how the week goes
As it happens, I have received baked goods already today, in the 15 minutes (real time) it has taken to write this. Not sure what they are exactly, but based on the WEIGHT of the items, I’m sure they’re good:)
Tuesday; 6 out.
SQ: Worked up to 285x 2,2,1,1,1
paused at 245x 3,3,
Seated Ham machine: 6’s @ 120,135,150/ 3x6@ 165
DB press: 2x6@ 50’s and 60’s
BE: Worked up to 245x 2,2,1,1,1
Bandwork
Tues night/ dinner break: Bent over DB rows (both arms, same time) 2x6@ 30,40,50’s. Hard pull/squeeze at top.
Did these after 2 PBJ’s…nice pump going on:)
I just invented/came up with the following phrase; I’m pretty sure it’s an original idea.
Glucose front-loading. For example: I’ve just eaten 17-23 ‘fun sized’ candy bars, because I’m lifting tomorrow morning. This could apply to any and all holiday treats; chocolate, baked things ect.
It’s a movement.
Z
Thursday: 10/27
Facepulls: 5x10@ 80
misc. band work
Leg press: wide/close feet; 5x10+10@ 550.
BE: 3x6@ 205
Inc BE: 3’s @ 155,175/ 4x2@ 195
That’s all.
Friday: Pull’in Party.
Misc. warm-up laps, bandwork, sumo RDL’s with 135…
DL: Easy sets, all Sumo, then 2’s @ 265, 265, singles @ 305, 330/ 4x1@ 360. Pull heavy(er) again in 13 days (after trip) and that’s about it, going into meet.
4" block: 4x2 @ 330. Pretty much a sumo stance RDL; low back/ lockout power.
Double over-hand grip= still stronger than I can pull so far. Yes, yes Karen, I’ll switch after this meet…jeez! Maybe.
Short and sweet; like the company I had for French Toast afterward!! Well, I had the F.Toast, Karen (who else) had some kind of Euro-trash salad ;(
Training Tues, then I’m gone for 6 days.
Euro-trash salad for a Euro-trash girl.
I was NOT referring to the girl; your from the Mid-West remember:)?
Tuesday, 11/1/16; PR’s for seated Ham curls and mid-incline DB press; clearly, on track 5 weeks out ![]()
Leg Press: 10 reps wide/10 reps close stance: 2x20 @ 480/ 3x20@ 570. Bit of Quad pump here:)
Seated Ham curl: 8@ 120,135/ 6@ 150, 165/ 3x6@ 180. Hard squeeze on all reps; had never tried 180.
DB mid- incline: 2x12@ 50’s/ 8 @ 60,70,80,80. Never went to 80’s on these; pretty solid, but hard the last few reps.
Hammer Inc. machine: 2x12@ 185/ 3x8@ 225. Chest up, shoulder/upper back locked in place; pull weight down, pause, punch back up. 20@ 135 to finish. Huge Triceps lockout on these also.
That’s all.
Vacation over, haven’t looked or posted in 11 days…What did I miss??
Quick ‘highlights’. Went to Chicago last Thursday; they had a parade for us Friday. Family, food, Blackhawks hockey game; the usual. Hit up the Rec Center near parents place; hit higher volume/med intensity for 3 sessions (every other day).
SQ: Did 3x1 @ 295, then 3x1@ 275. Hit leg press other 2 days; 4-5x20@ 570 both times.
BE: Hit 4x1@ 245, then 4x2@ 225. Hit OHP another day, flat DB hammer plus pec deck (?) day 3.
DL: Did 8x3@ 315; light and fast. Also did some pulldowns/ read delt machine, and back raise and stuff another day.
Worked fast, did a decent amount of stuff, then went home. Gained/lost precisely 0 lbs. during my time off, which is fine.
Back home; lifted Weds/ Friday.
Weds, 11/9.
DL: 8x2@ 330. Quick and easy. Dialed in set-up; quick re-set between reps.
Block, from shins: 4x2@ 330.
BE/ pin press 3"off chest: Up to 3x2@ 245/ 2x4@205.
High incline DB’s and band work.
