Back and At It... Again

Interesting, Court. Can you use knee wraps and still be counted raw in your lifting federation? You can’t in mine, and that’s where I get all the gain (25%, I guess). Maybe that’s because I wear a third-hand deadlift suit to squat in, though, so don’t get much out of it.

I’m in awe about the huge gain you get in bench. The most I ever got out of a shirt was 10%. Something is wrong here for me.

Yeah, I don’t get much gain from a DL suit either. Maybe 10%.

Regarding the seated good mornings. I think those are among the most hardcore training exercises. I love the standing good mornings, but haven’t gotten up the nerve to try them seated.

My gain in bench is NOT normal! I get about the same in lbs that some of the guys in my club get, except their raw is in the 400s. I think I get this because I can handle a good amount of weight off a 2 board, but am awful off of my chest.

Knee wraps cannot be used and be counted as raw, but I don’t really have plans to lift raw :slight_smile:

The reason I do them seated is because when I do them standing my hamstrings hurt for like 5-6 days. I’m heading out of town this weekend and have some sports to play so I didn’t want to have sore hammies. With seated I find I actually feel it in my back and not just the hams.

I’ve been around and doing stuff. I played volleyball, football, dodgeball and more football all weekend and literally could barely move on Sunday/Monday. Got in last night for some quickie HIIT and then went in this morning and did some upper body. To be honest, I don’t remember exactly what I did, but I did some military press, some db bench, at least one set of flies, some pulldowns and some dips. It was too damn early.

Our new pay period for this job at school started Sunday. I did 1 hour of work on Sunday. As of last night when I went to bed, I already had booked 19.5hours this week. That’s the max we’re “allowed” to work a week while in class so I’ll just be rolling hours over pretty much forever. I also had a group paper, an individual case, a homework assignment and a group assignment due Mon-Wed this week. I woke up at 6 to finish papers both Monday and Tuesday because I literally could not stay awake when I finally had “time” at midnight.

Tonight though I finally got to relax and have some fun. I got in contact finally with the local alumna chapter of my sorority. I went to one of their fun events tonight and met 11 of the ladies. We played Bunco (I’d never heard of it before tonight) and I won $10. Wooo! haha. Not only that, but for some reason the hostess brought out this book titled “How to Tickle His Pickle” and we kept reading excerpts from it. There are some very graphic pictures and directions. Effin hilarious. I’m sleeping in tomorrow before going in to school for a bit, then taking it easy. I need to do laundry and clean up and do some reading. My life is in disarray trying to plan this event for next weekend.

PS. I met an Air Force guy over the weekend that goes to UCLA. Super tall, amazing body (kinda stocky but cut. Interesting combo), killer eyes and smile. Anyways, I was introduced with him through a friend I went to undergrad with who now goes to UCLA… and tonight AF guy called. I was at my sorority thing so didn’t answer, but damn. I would do (will do?) dirty things to that boy…

Interesting that you were in a sorority - my school didn’t have any, but I don’t think I would have been the type to join anyway. The party sounded fun though! Did everyone already know each other (did you know any of the people there?) or was it just a totally random group?

Um, yeah…this shit keeps me busy for hours.

I’m a big fan of sport playing and (board)game playing myself, so that sounds like an awesome way to spend your days. Except I get uber-competitive and become “that guy”. Oh well.

The group was random in that most of us went to different schools (at least at different times). I was the only Canadian. We ranged in age from 23-early 40s I would say. They all belong and are active in the same alumna group so they know each other. I was the new face :slight_smile:

I was definitely NOT the type to join either actually… I went through rush in my 2nd year not really expecting to join, but had a bunch of friends that did it. Quite happy I did. Love my girls.

Went away this weekend and did some shit. Friday I trained with a friend and his PL coach. This coach is helping him prep for his first meet (the one Chimera is doing in Sept…). He gave me a couple pointers to work on my awful raw bench given my limited equipment. Also watched me deadlift and loved my form. Showed me a few ways to set up minibands to work my speed off the floor too. Should take me approximately 10min to set up at my gym with lots of looks all around :slight_smile:

Anyways, did some bench (form).

Deadlifts:
135x5x1
185x5x2
225x3x3
245x1x4

The 245 was feeling heavy and I was frustrated. Then I found out that the plates they have are actually shorter than regular size… by about 1/2 inch. So I was deadlifting from a deficit. It made so much more sense then because there were like 3 times I set up and when I went to grab the bar, it wasn’t where I expected it to be.

I then did 3 sets of 5 with this weird double-mini-band contraption with 95lbs. My low back/thighs were sore in the morning from these!

Saturday I went on a hike to this beautiful place. I could have sat at the top all day, but had company that was trying on my nerves. This “company” was why I went there in the first place. Met him through a friend (not AF boy, but another guy) in my program and we hit it off well, but I realized this weekend we are WAY too different. And he interrupts. And he’s almost always serious. The most annoying thing though is that I’ll make a statement and have a story about it. I’ll finish the statement and all of a sudden he’ll interject with “that doesn’t sound good” or “that’s not right” or some other judgmental statement before I get a chance to finish my thought. Okay, end of vent. Okay, maybe I have another annoyance… he’s ‘artsy’ and writes poetry in his spare time. So I swear ALL of his words are chosen so carefully and especially in his texts. I just got one and literally said out loud “Speak fucking English”. I don’t know what he means / is trying to say half the time because he speaks in metaphors and shit. I’m too fucking logical for that.

Okay, I’m done. Clearly with him too. Ugh.

Looking forward to benching and squatting tomorrow. Feel like I haven’t squatted in a while.
