Women’s division has been changed to no weight classes. Therefore, the top 3 women placings will qualify for nationals. Obviously this contest for women is geared toward first-time strongwoman athletes, however Kara Mann, 2004 national champion, and Liane Blyn, WSW top 5, will demo a few events, as well as be judging the contest. This is definitely something to look forward to for everyone to see what can be accomplished by drug-free women with hard work and determination.
MacineAZ~
Since there is no longer a weight class for women, can you give me what the breakdown in weights is now for each event? Will the events stay be the same as the original application stated?
Thanks in advance!
The event weights will be very close to what it is on the entry form for LW’s. Off the top of my head…
Log - 80
Farmers - 105
Yoke/Tire - 200/300
Deadlift - max
Arm-over-Arm Pull - SUV x 75ft.
Stones - sub100, 110, 130, 150, 175
Thanks for the update!!!

Dropping my application and check in the mail today. Please add me to the list of women competing!
Thanks!
Shelle
Cool. I will update the list on Friday evening, I’m expecting a few more as well.
Scott
A lot more competitors signed up and still might get a few more entries this coming week. This contest is going to be pretty big!
Can you give us an update? Are weigh ins still at 11:00am with competition starting at noon? Will you run each event thru before moving to the next event?
Hopefully there is a good turnout, looks like a great list of competitors!
Weigh-ins at 11am. If you arrive early, I should be able to weigh you in. I’m planning on being there with everything and setting up at 10am. There are no weigh-ins for women.
Rules meeting at 11:30am. I will go over every event and answer any questions.
Contest begins at 12pm. The first two events, log press & farmers walk, should run pretty fast. We’ll only be doing one event at a time, so until everyone finishes that event, we won’t start the next one.
The goal is to finish by 5:30pm. There will be a short awards presentation after. Trophies to top 3 women, novice, LW open, and HW open.
Each competitor gets one T-shirt. I may have extra available for $15/shirt.
Everyone in the Phoenix metro area needs to be there. This contest is going to be big and be a lot of fun!

4 days to go.

This is tomorrow! Looking forward to seeing the AZ chapter of T-Nation at ACME.
I have no experience but I am interested.

Good luck to all may you have the strength of Hercules. Looks like I missed the boat on this one.
How did the T Nation members do at this contest? I heard the contest went very well also. Great job with the contest Scott.
I just have few casual observation from the previous weeks of training and at the contest.

A lot of you may realize this already, but competition brings out the best in you I believe all the above our “film stars” hit PR’s in one event and most it multiple events.
-
Talk about a supportive environment, even though there were some very close contests. There was a still a strong sense of camaraderie among the competitors and ton of support from all the spectators.
-
Athletes, wow there was some pretty impressive performances, in the few events I got see.
-
While working in the gym is a great for buidling foundational strength; however there is some definite specificity to the implements and drills. Meaning if you have a chance you really need to spends sometime with them prior to a contest.
-
Grip strength is huge, I saw some impressive big men have their grip fail them yesterday. Granted when you have nearly 300lbs in each hand there is a good chance of that happening.
-
The coolest of thing for me to observe through this whole process was to take two previously non-competitive athlete women (Riann and Shelle) and have the totally latch on to this stuff. They were absolutely “high” on this stuff at dinner and planning their next contest and talking training
cycles etc… now that’s COOL in my book.
and
They have decide to hit a June contest so, there will be more Sunday videos coming

Scott~ Thanks for putting on a GREAT contest. It was so nice to be able to interact and compete against such great athletic women.
As Troy previously mentioned, I am NOT athletic. Some of the more seasoned posters on here may know my story, the newer ones may not. You can search for “From Cancer to Competitor” for the full story but in a nutshell, 11 months ago I underwent a double mastectomy at age 34. 7 months ago I have complete reconstructive surgery which included cutting my pec muscles in 1/2 to insert the implants. I am now cancer free almost one year (2/14/06 will be one year) so this competition had a huge meaning to me.
As for my placing… well, I placed dead last. Out of 6 women. 3 were local, 1 from CA, 1 from NJ and one from IN. I cannot believe that in AZ which boast about 5 million people there were only 3 women competing!
Anyway, things I learned. Taking last doesn’t actually mean losing. I gained so much from this contest. I did hit some PR’s, I also had a vivid realization of what I need to work on. Just stepping up and completing most of the lifts was good for me. The meet in June will be better and I will be much more prepared (lord, I see months of seriously DL’s coming on).
My workout partner, Riann, missed taking 3rd by a point or less. She was amazing. If you watch the weekly videos of our training, you’ll see the progress we make each week.
So, the planning and training begins for the June contest!!
Again, thanks to Scott, Lianne and Kara and Kevin for all their help, encouragement and for putting on a fantastic competition!!
Shelle
Yes, Scott did a great job putting everything together! It ran so smoothly and was really well organized, a blast to do! Thanks to Liane helping out too with keeping things on track.
Kara was great not only to watch, but had some helpful insights to the implements and was very positive to be around.
Kevin was a motivater, he kept us going when the pain was pretty great. Thanks for you guys for taking the time to give us all such a great experience!
Also, thanks to my training partners that pushed me and made me get better. Let’s not forget Speilberg, I mean Troy for all those great training videos, what a blast!
June is on the way, and I am psyched that the women are so into it!
Let’s all go set some new PRs!!
Looks like photos should be posted online today!!!
It was a great show. Good job to all who participated, as well as the event organizers!
I couldn’t stay for the whole thing(had to go after the medley), when will the final results be posted? Or, where can I go to find them?
