where is this located. just a quick question, im a pretty good athlete who has never done strongman before. would it be worth my while to try to compete in the 231’s?

Visit www.azstrongman.com for more info. I will be updating the website soon.

The contest is going to be held at:

SandBar Mexican Grill
10050 N. Scottsdale Rd.,
Scottsdale AZ 85253

Those are some big weights in the HW class. 1000lb tire is badass, I don’t know if I could flip that one or not.

I wish you guys the best on this show, hopefully you’ll get a nice turnout.

Monopoly

Count me in this year. Will the entry info be on this site or on the azstrongman.com site?

Scott Porter’s a great guy. This should be a high quality event.

Visit the NAS website for the entry form. I haven’t added it to the azstrongman.com website yet. Thanks.

One more question: will straps be used for the car deadlift event?

If I can drop to the 231 weight class, I might compete in this.

Yes, straps are allowed on the deadlift for reps. Belt, straps, chalk only, no suits. Conventional stance only.

Just wanted to let everyone know that this is shaping up to be a great contest.

Socko energy drinks is getting behind the contest, along with Kevin Nee, so it should be a huge event. There will be a Socko tour bus at the contest and I’m sure free energy drinks for the athletes.

The contest is going toward charity so I’m working to get a lot of sponsors and get news coverage for the event and have a huge crowd watching. The venue really will cater toward a good contest to spectate.

Equipment-wise you will see top of the line stuff, ironmind axles, brute strength farmers, ironmind sandbags, williams strength car deadlift, tires with good tread, and stones built by me using slater’s molds.

Willie Wessels is planning to come out to run/judge the show (along with Kevin and myself) so you know it will be top notch and fair.

I have many oral confirmations and entries are already starting to come in. The permits are in the works and the date will be finalized at the end of the week. It is all but set in stone so plan on January 20th, actual start time TBA.

Don’t miss out!

I’m a little surprised. Where are all the people who posted on this thread last year?

Just letting everyone know there has been a date change for this event.

February 10th, 2007 is the new date.

This worked out better for the venue as well as NAS and we should be able to pump a lot more promotion into the event.

I have already received 10 entries and have at least another 10 in oral confirmations. I’m anticipating 40 athletes so please get your entries in as soon as possible.

If you are in Phoenix or nearby you should definitely come to the event or consider competing.

Good news guys. I was not completely satisfied with only 10 rooms and the $139/night rate from Hampton so I’m working on something better.

I met with the host sponsor today Socko Energy Drinks and they are looking into getting us their corporate rate from Hampton. They may be able to block off some more rooms too. Even better, they are checking into getting their rate from Scottsdale Plaza Resort which is much cheaper, but a much nicer hotel. It is just a few miles south of the contest venue.

I’ll update next week with more info…

Any word on the weights for the car deadlift?

The car deadlift frame and apparatus should be arriving in a few weeks. We will test out the weights for all classes.

Ideally it will feel like…

425 lbs. for LW’s
495 lbs. for MW’s
565 lbs. for HW’s

It is a 15" pull. Practice from that height off plates.

Hey, just to clarify, cuz I’m a noob and confused: when is the weigh-in for the competition? Is it the day before, one hour before, or both?

This is going to be a great show! Scott has always put together a great event.

if it hasn’t been mentioned before you can grab a copy of the entry at www.strengthworksgym.com go to the events page and it is the first on the list.

Don’t miss out of this one.

The trophies for the winners. How’s that for motivation?

Good lookin event guys wish I could swing the trip. Have a blast.
