I respect your opinion. But it is not an advertisement. I just disect products due to my background and knowledge in the industry.
What the fuck? I don’t want to use my abdominals and unrelated synergists on chest day. Give me a break.
That stool, ahem-bench, looks like it could lead to back problems, especially if you suggest using heavy ass dumbbells with it.
What the fuck?
I agree the fitness industry gets inundated with crap all the time. In fact FYI the company Icon does most of the infomercials out there. Icon also is the company that owns Free Motion. They make very good fitness equipment.
They are 800 million dollar company that is the vehicle for alot of these products you see in the infomercials.
We can agree to disagree about the Box Squats. But I am open to listen to your philosophy on box squats.
As a power lifter though your posterior chain is much stronger than average gym goer. I have seen many people at gyms perform Box Squats and I cringe at their technique. If you rest on the box and have a weak low back your are going to get premature forward flexion and the exercise is going to look more like a good morning. That’s not good for the lower lumbar.

Nobody is ahem is saying use heavy ass dumbells with it. And it won’t hurt your back.
People still train one body part a day in this day an age?

you can do it the same way. Your back is on the pad and your hips are off. It’s real easy in the incline position because you can sit upright then slide down the pad. The flat position is a little harder. I suggest you have a spotter to help you with the weight if you are going real heavy.
Yes, it’s called Professional Bodybuilding.

No worries, it just gets out of hand around here sometimes and it is totally played out. Each to their own…

It sounded like you were calling me out. To me those are not standard infomercial words. These are things I have discussed with my colleagues as we have analyzed this product.

It’s all good…most of the responses have been cool…nothing like sparking a little controversey…I would like to at least see some valid arguments though…
most of the responses have been reactionary without any thought…

Thank you for instantly stereotyping everyone who didnt buy into your suspicious plugging of a ridiculous piece of “functional” training equipment as “meatheads”.
By the way, whats your problem with bodybuilders? Isnt this a bodybuilding website? Since when did being a bodybuilder become a negative thing here?
If youre interested in “functional strength” and not bodybuilding, there are other parts of this forum you could have posted your little advertisement on.
You seem pretty high on yourself, what are your credentials? Who have you trained? Impress us.
I actually do not have a problem with bodybuilders or anybody who trains because it promotes a healthy life style. I do have a problem with narrow minded people who think they know everything because they belong to a gym, read an article or have a bunch of certifications. Nobody knows everything and we all can continue to learn.
I also am not getting anything for talking about this bench.
I just figured some people might be interested in it. But some of the responses have been quite amusing.
I have been a strength and conditioning coach in at the Division I level for over 8 years
and we used to talk about this exact thing that is going on since I posted this article. Part of the problem with our industry is that alot of people think they know everything and do not respect other people’s point of view. We have an ego driven industry which is not healthy when it comes to discussing topics or exchanging ideas.
I have worked with athletes at all levels. This piece of equipment is very unique now that I am in the private sector. Just wanted to share the wealth.
I also do not think it is important or relevent for me to list all the athletes I have worked with over the years or people who are well known in the field. In my opinion who cares. If I name drop does that give me intant credibility?

Matrix F.T.B LLC was founded in the spring of 2006 by Todd Gates. Mr. Gates was a strength and conditioning coach for eight years. He worked at UMass Boston, Rutgers University and Boston College.
Creepy!
Oops, looks like the poster above me beat me to it.
Haha didn’t anyone read the ‘About Us’ page on that site?
Matrix F.T.B LLC was founded in the spring of 2006 by Todd Gates. Mr. Gates was a strength and conditioning coach for eight years. He worked at UMass Boston, Rutgers University and Boston College. The idea for a Functional Training Bench arose from his own problem solving in the weight room while training athletes over the years. Mr. Gates would either stack plates on the ground or on the bench in order to adjust an athletes? height for certain exercises. This was the only way he could put them in proper body positions. This was not an ideal way of training because it was time consuming and not as effective as using proper equipment. Mr. Gates came up with the idea of a bench that not only adjusted horizontally but “also vertically so he would no longer have to use plates to adjust a benches height. With his invention the bench adjusted to users instead of users adjusting to the bench. Mr. Gates applied the concept of ergonomics and functionality and created world?s first patent pending multi purpose Functional Training Bench.”
Hmm the owner of this company had 8 years of Division I training experience. The author of this post had 8 years of Division I training experience. I’m going to go out on a long, shaky limb here and suggest that the owner of this company is the one making these posts.
