Avoiding Overtraining the Legs

I’ve been having great gains on my current upper/lower 4 x workouts a week routine, but I think it might be an idea to re-introduce a bit of cardio. Not just for the long-term health of my heart and lungs, but for keeping fat gains down to a minimum and staying as lean as possible whilst bulking.

The thing is though, the routine has 2 leg days a week, and I’m not sure how I could really fit in cardio to avoid overtraining them. I tried cycling and rowing HIIT (anaerobic intervals) last week on rest days, and as good as they made me feel (sweat, endorphins etc), I felt exhausted and drained the rest of the week… hardly the right kind of environment for muscle growth.

Any ideas? Steady state cardio is less draining on the CNS i hear, but is touted as being adverse to muscle gains.

do some light cardio after you train like high incline brisk walking.

its low impact.

If you keep the intensity moderate(everyone is a bit different) and your protein intake is adequate; I do not believe you will have a problem with muscle gains.
(HR @ 130-140 BPM works great for me)

Most people would find HIT cardio difficult with two legs days in the lifting schedule.
