You guys need to find a movie theater hook-up…that way all you ever waste is your time…not money. I haven’t paid for a movie in years.

This movie was really awesome!
I saw it in IMAX 3D. I think my eyes are progressively getting worse because I couldn’t see some of the 3D, it just seemed blurry. I saw Beowulf in 3D a few years ago and man that was epic! but this time I felt like I was cheated because everyone else was seeing the 3D and I was missing all the good parts. Even though I was getting a headache, I still thought the movie was awesome.
I blame the Ferrari…get rid of it and your eyes will get better. I can help you with that…really. :-)
How could I have been so blind? ![]()
James Cameron knows how to make a movie! The 3D was not all about throwing something at the screen, and making you jump. It was all encompassing, EVERY shot was in 3D, even the damn subtitles.
When the battle started you felt like you were in the mix. FUCK 2D DUDE do not wait till this gets to cable, don’t see it on a 2D screen. You will miss another leap in movie tech. The CG was damn realistic, no irky jerky movement, no dead eved characters.
Honestly the story was IMO very good. Yes it was a lot like Last Samurai, which was like Dances with Wolves but it did that story style justice. The environmental message was on point and had great message being “one” with the planet. Plus the alien broad could get it, yes tail and all.
Oh Yeah the Colonel was fuckin’ BADASS!
Agreed
I thought the original ferngully was good enough. Not sure why they remade it.

I haven’t seen this yet, but the talk surrounding it will have me going within the next week. Apparently the 3D effect (along with the basic idea) was a concept that Cameron had been thinking of since he was 14 years old.
It might be “cowboys and indians” but I dare someone to find a movie with a truly original plot that has been made that has no origin in historical media. It’s almost 2010. I think it’s safe to say that anyone truly looking for some story line never thought of before in any form is shit out of luck.
I agree completely with people saying that the 3D and Imax are the only way to see it because thats how i saw it and it blew my balls off.

That is cool you did not like it, to each his own.
I loved it personally!
But when people say shit like that during a movie I pay $10 to see, it seriously make me want to kick there ass! Pet peeve of mine. If they are close to me, I will tell them every time to ‘shut the fuck up!’
Just a heads up, it is very in polite to ruin others people experience just cause you did not like it…save it for after the movie with your friends.
Cheers.

Fucking. Amazing. Movie might not be for everyone, but wow. Stunning visuals (the best ever) and a well developed story. Hits on so many themes that it has to be watched to understand. It essentially is the history of man on a very deep level (educated vs savage, etc.). It also helped I was blazed as hell, but nonetheless, awesome.
you MUST have been blazed as hell.
this movie is ALL about the visuals, which at times are amazing. it must be seen in 3D. anything else and its just a waist of your life. fucking awful.

I hear you, it was impolite of me.
Not really in my defense, but interesting none the less, maybe its an Arkansas thing but about half the theater I was in either said the same thing as me or began laughing hysterically at said line.

X, it’s not so much that the story isn’t original. It has more to do with the fact that the relationships between the characters weren’t as developed as they could have been. It doesn’t come close to a film such as Star Trek in regard to character development. And since this movie has been in development for over a decade, one would think the script would be strong enough to match the magnificent visual spectacle.
I’m not sure I agree entirely with the notion that the characters were “undeveloped.” While I do admit many other epic movies had better character development, this was far from “terrible.” There is some details of the movie that play out nicely- for instance, the fact it was a handicapped guy. Anyone who was handicapped would tend to be much more fascinated/ hold admiration for the free lifestyle of nature the savages represent.
Also, anyone who doesn’t get why he would fight against his own race lacks empathy. While I know it was simply a movie, it hit me hard from the respect of how close it was to the way history has played out. No one can honestly say that when Americans practically genocided (is that a word?) Native Americans that it was right/ethical in any light. I love the U.S. and mankind, but, let’s be honest, there have been mistakes and crruption in the past (as one would expect). Ddidn’t mean to get all soft and shit, I guess I just related to it on a deeper level than the average person. And, like Prof X said, Cameron started that script when he was a mered 14 years old. So, in that light, consider in the ingenuity of both the plot, scenerey, and piece as a whole. The more I think of it, it’s like The Last Samurai and The Matrix, all in one.
You guys also got to remember it wasn’t like he was with an actual US armed forces unit. All those guys were mercs trying to make a fast buck providing security detail for a corporate mining facility. So in a sense he had no REAL connection with these dudes other than being human. Most of them clowned him while he was there anyway. I think that most of us given the choice would have a hard time not siding with the natives. Plus seriously Im sure native sex is some wild shit. Tails and all.
As far as character development goes, the main characters (The dude and the native chick) were fully actualized by the end of the movie. They started one way with one set of beliefs at the beginning of the movie, and were noticeably changed by the end of the movie. You can see the steps that were taken to affect that change. That my friend is character development.
One of my new fav movies of all time…The attention to detail was impeccably amazing…Story was great…And as a former Marine myself, we always like to see other Marines depicted in movies

Lol ! Too true - Semper Fi. True for me, too. I haven’t seen this movie yet, but looking forward to it.
I really enjoyed it–it wasn’t a perfect movie, but it was pretty fun to watch. Wish it was a little faster moving near the beginning. The general plot was ridiculously cliche, and you expect everything that happens. The details, however, are incredibly original. Like the entire Navi alien race is just really cool–the movie really made me wish that I had a Navi avatar lol.
I’m trying to include 0 spoilers, so I’ll just say that the last 30-40 minutes were pretty freaking awesome. Also, I thought Neyteri was pretty hot.
I thought this was awesome! I’m not much of a movie conneseure, I just like to watch shit that entertains me. Whoever said once the movie gets going it becomes ‘holy-shit-fuck-you-in-your-face’ awesome was spot on.
SPOILER
The battle at the end, although somewhat predictable was fucking awesome. I loved watching those big bird things tear the planes out of the sky. And the rhino things wrecking shop at the end was fun to watch. I’m also a big fan of that black panther beast thing. The thing is relentless.
SPOILER

exactly… Has the overall theme been done before? yup, but who gives a sh*t… this movie had visual effects I have never seen / experianced, cool well done robot mech suits, a bad ass seargent, big monsters, a robot knife fight, and alien side boob… all in 3D… jesus, what more do you want from a movie…
I liked it enough to see it twice, enjoyed it both times… I still think the robot having to carry a gun seemed wiered (shoulder mount?) but damn was it a great movie…

I will never understand people like you… I brought this up in that other thread about the 4 minute short with the robots… Why is it that every time people make FX driven movies people complain about character development as if every movie has to be a boring ass french drama… the movie had PLENTY of character development… you understood the motives, had empathy for the locals situation, learned about them, where given reasons for the guys disconnect with the other mercs, Michelle Rodrigez character (a pilot) even got character development and she barely had any screen time…
Am I the only one who goes to movies to be entertained?

that does sound a bit messed up to me. I mean, if the tall smurfs didnt deserve to die then why does your own species? But w.e.! I’m still watchin it!
I know lots of my own species that deserve to die…what does that have to do with it? If you act like a dickhead - alien or human I think you need to get kicked in the nether regions.
Besides in the movies - although the military guys were former Marines, Army. etc…on that world they were just mercenaries…not that there is anything wrong with mercs; bu there can be a difference.
