Brother Strick congratulations on the move. I actually thought of you yesterday. I had a very weak OHP session and was thinking I need a Strick OHP video repping 285 for inspiration.
What up, Strick! Get that rack set up and don’t be a stranger.
well, well, well, look what the cat dragged in!! Hope Iowa is awesome for you and your family…all the Best Big Man…Paul
Good to see you Strick- hope the move works out.
Yo Skip, good to see you. And you weren’t kidding about the -20 degrees winters. It gets so cold where you are.
I’m going to revive the dead ( no, not with mouth to mouth)… HEY BIG MAN ! WHERE YOU AT! I heard if you shout people far away can hear you.
I’m here. Still have no place to setup the home gym, as we are still trying to sell the house in Oklahoma. I have been doing push-ups and playing racquetball…but that is about it.
I think I am going to just join the damned Y and workout there until the house sells and we get one here.
Sorry for the absence…but thanks for not letting me be forgotten.
I bet my bench is back down to 300 and my MP down to 225 ![]()
One good thing about the Y is they have a leg press. So, I could work legs again without the back issues. We’ll see.
Thanks OG!
Wow. You’re still alive. Hope all is well with the family. You need to post more often. The site isn’t the same without you. Oh yeah I used to be ecogenx.
Really good to see some old faces coming back. Especially yours, Strick!
Thanks Steve and Snap.
I have been gone far too long. Family is doing well. Daughter is still really homesick. Aside from that, things are moving along. This job is much less stressful than the one I had back in OK. And, of course, having my brother around is nice.
kp…My wife ended up having back surgery. I can’t say that it had anything to do with the deadlift incident, a few years ago. But…it had really started bothering her, in the same spot, during/after the move. She pushed it too hard. Then she had me push on her back to try to pop it. I guess neither of us fully appreciated the size difference between us and it popped alright. Herniated disc… They had to go in and trim off the bulge, as it was pressing on the nerve and making life miserable.
Steve, I knew it was you
I have been invisible, but not completely out of the loop. I got to experience my first northern winter this year. And you know, it really wasn’t that bad…as long as you kept your skin covered. I went all but about 3 or 4 days with only a heavy hoodie. Of course, I don’t work outside…
I think I am going to go ahead and join the Y, this week. My brother is a member and we play racquetball there. So, it would be easier than paying the Y and a gym.
They do have one power rack that is especially tall. So, I think I can MP in it. Assuming that it isn’t always in use. Kind of a small gym, unless you are a fan of machines. If I time it right, though, and avoid rush hour, I think I can get in what I need to. And having access to a leg press again is heartening. It won’t work my core like squats and deads, but won’t aggravate the spondy either.
Glad to see several of the old-timers still here. I’ve missed this place!
Y membership acquired. I am still concerned about getting the power rack when I need it. Saw one yesterday being used for half-squats.
But, at least he was squatting. Only one rack is tall enough to MP in. That is a concern since I doubt they will let me do it from the outside of the rack, like I am used to.
But, we will work with what we have until we have a place to call home again.
Shooting for a return this Wednesday. I am more than a little concerned. I haven’t touched a weight at all in over six months and haven’t lifted heavy in nearly 18 months. I see lots of pain and frustration. Hopefully it comes back quickly.

Good luck! Hopefully there are endorphine rushes and joy in addition to the pain and frustration.
Welcome back Strick. Great to see you.

Same here. I’ve been lifting, but nothing remotely heavy for 18 months too.

Muscle memory and all that? Let’s hope it does for you. Unfortunately my muscles’ memory seems to be as bad as my own. “What was it I came upstairs for?”
Hope your house sells soon.

Well at least that "small frame " of yours is getting a break
Thanks, Snap. There is a love-hate relationship with the soreness. I am dreading the road back to where I was, though. It is always hard to go back in there and see how far down your strength has gone.
FarmerBrett…good to see you! So, are you back where you were when you started posting? I thought there was a migration to the Iberian Peninsula!? Or was that a vacation?
I am counting on muscle memory. I would like to be back up to full speed by my birthday. Of course, that is only 31 days away. So that might be a little much to ask ![]()
Bulldog, you are so right. And it is smaller since I haven’t been lifting. I can almost walk through a door without turning sideways! I see that you’re still at strong at it. Also, Pup is really starting to look and read like he ain’t a puppy anymore!
Hopefully good news. We just under contract on the house. Well, technically we have been under contract. But it was a contingency, on them selling their house. This contract is straight up. If all of the inspections go smoothly, we should close in about a month.
Of course, we were here last Dec. and their financing fell through. Fingers crossed!
awesome on the house. best for a successful conclusion! Now could we please read some lifting in here!! hahaha

Working on it…lol
Plan to go in tomorrow. I had to go through 16 boxes before I could find my gear.
Looks like I am going to be getting used to lifting again AND trying to trim an inch. Can’t breath with the lever closed. Apparently I have grown in the past 18 months…and not where I wanted to.
Glad to see you back Strick. Why wouldn’t you be allowed to MP outside of the rack? I never handled anywhere near 315 but certainly have done two plates per side outside of the rack at many different gyms over the years and never had anyone say anything to me.

Yes, I am back. Due in part to my wife’s extreme encouragement. She says I am much happier when I am lifting. And, as usual, she is right.
There are two YMCAs that I would actually use. The one I have seen the weight room in is a bit cramped. If I were to use the outside of the rack and step back, I would pretty much block the lane. If I got the one in the corner, though, it might be possible. I haven’t seen the weight room at the other one, but it is closer to work and my house.
The other reason is just the clientele. It is very much what you would expect from a Y…which is not a bad thing. I am just concerned I would get the “that’s not how you use this equipment” bit. Hopefully I am wrong.
I see that you are putting up impressive numbers. That, of course, is no surprise. Once I get to where I can bench more than the bar again, I might hit you up for some more advice. One day, I have to believe, I will figure out my bench form.
Strick Welcome back!
glad to hear you and the family are well, good news on the house.
