At Which BF% is Your Bloodwork Healthiest?

Obviously other factors to consider, but BF% is important.

I’m guessing people’s labs usually look healthiest when they’re relatively lean (10-20%), but curious what folks will say.

I think it is important to remember what BF% are considered healthy. According to one website, healthy BF for women aged 20-39 is 21-32%, for men, 8-19%.

Men aged 40-59 it is 11-21%, 60-79 is 13-24%.

BF is important for energy reserves, insulation, and hormone production. I suspect there is a sweet spot that balances aesthetics and health.

I think questioning WHERE you’re holding your bodyfat is going to play more a role vs just the sheer number. If you’re 10% bodyfat and look absolutely peeled and it turns out all of your bodyfat visceral: your health is going to be awful. Same dude, same bodyfat%, less visceral fat and more subcutaneous fat? Much better outcome. And we can even simplify it if it’s abdominal fat vs non-abdominal fat.

Really, I find bodyfat % as a number to be pretty insignificant these days.
