Assistance for Sumo Deadlifts

I’ve started doing a new deadlift program and was hoping somebody could answer a question I was having. I’ve started doing dimel deadlifts to work on my lockouts but am wondering if this isn’t specific enough to carry over to my sumo deadlifts.

I’m a novice lifter (my 1RM is 495) so I think I might be over thinking this for my needs but was hoping for some input as to whether these would work or if I should replace them. Thanks in advance for any help!

I’m at about the same level as you, I find, though, that doing double-paused deadlifts really helps me out in the sumo. I also like sumo block pulls to work on lockout.

SSB box squats helped me build off the floor strength.

Where do you fail? Are you fast off the floor but struggle at lockout? Or are you slow off the floor and strong at lock out?

Off topic are you competing in Manchester in July?

I had used box squats and they helped my off the floor strength tremendously but my sticking point is now at lockout. Which is odd for sumo deads but that’s where I’m sticking.

That sounds like a good choice but I don’t have access to blocks, would rack pulls be an acceptable alternative?

These might help a bit:

…I do them stiff leg with sumo stance

Yep. I’ll be there with Tee and some other guys from my gym.

Pull throughs are great, stiff leg sumo deadlifts, hip thrusts, anything that will directly target your hips, lower back and glutes.

I’m a big fan of banded pull throughs where you attach the band around your neck.
