So, I encountered another scenario this evening that pretty much convinced me to just say: “Arnold says…XXX” instead of saying anyone else.
This evening in the gym my wife asks me if we are doing abs again. I introduced an additional day of abs to her this week, and she thought we would do them again. I told her no. She asked why and I went on to explain.
I was interested to see what her response would be if I quoted another accomplished bodybuilder. So I told her that many body builders say one of the most common mistakes is training abs everyday. I said Lee haney says one of the most common mistake made is training abs everyday.
She looks at me, frowns and says, well Britney Spears does 500 crunches everyday and she is well known for that. Inside I was outraged. My wife has seen pictures of Gina Alliotti, and other T-girls abs I have shown her on this site.
I sucked it up and said yea, but look at Britney’s abs. She said yea, now, but they used to look nice. I personally think Britney’s abs looked about like a young girls abs should look, I dont ever recall being impressed with muscle seperation on Britney Spears.
So, I told my wife I would show her “real” abs when we got home. Then I reminded her, you have seen those abs on T-Nation, you know they blow Britney’s away. She shrugged and said, yea, but Britney says to do 500 crunches a day.
At this point the conversation/argument was out of control and I was getting pissed off. I ask her if she even knows who Lee Haney is. She says no. I tell her he is a 8 time Mr. Olympia winner. I go on to say you take the advice of Britney spears for training Abs over an 8 time Mr. Olympia winner.
I am truncating the conversation, but come on man, how can you argue Britney Spear’s, little Ms. Whote trash wannabe pop star, ab workout recommendation to that of Lee Haney? JESUS!
I will say I elaborated and explained that resistance training must progress and 500 crunches no more no less fails that test, and that we dnt work any muscle everday and know it is not reasonable.
Next time, I am just going to save the trouble and say Arnold says it. I think I could have avoided the entire ugly scenario if I had just said Arnold says abs not everyday.
Man, I am still in disbelief…Britney Spears. [/quote]
This kind of disgusts me. I mean, I get what you are going after. Telling someone “arnold says squats is good!” is generally offered with good intentions. But maybe arnold doesn’t agree with your position on ab training frequency. Thats like…reverse plagiarism, or something.
Slander?
I for one, don’t want people dishing out false quotes of mine. Reminds me of those political commercials. “I am barack Obama, and I approve of this message.”
