Arms, How Big is Huge?

I thought Valentino was dead…

oh well, Ive been chasing 17" for years now…it’s wierd, ive got a big chest, legs, shoulders…bodyfat under control, and right after a workout the arms look f(*kin huge, but within a day back to @16.5 in… they actually look small for my body.

Haha, sweet picture. Yee-haw!

Ok, this is the first time i’ve tried to post a picture and this is also the closest thing that i have. Because I don’t have a digital camera.
The standard “big arm” of the pre steroid body building days was 18" (or so). I think anyone who can attain an arm that size today (drug free) has some bragging rights. Of course, body fat levels would also have to be in check, say under 14%.
Cool, so I fit in this category.

I have puny 17 1/2 in arms… :frowning:

:stuck_out_tongue: But i guess my bodyfat is far about 14% anyway… somewhere around 20% i would guess… runs to do some squats instead

I’ll try to get a better picture than that, cause that was taken last spring and I’ve made some gains and lost a lot of fat since then.

Just got the recent FLex magazine, has an article on Troy Alves that says his arms are 22 inches, thats big. Someone said Valentino is 6’2, no way, try 5’2. And Greg Kovacs, yep, he’s in my dead pool. Also, did anyone see the longest yard? That HUGE black dude, the near retard, was Bob Sapp. He is from Colorado Springs, and I knew him while he was playing football at U Washington. He looked like a lineman then, then he got real big. I mean REAL big. I think it was the creatine.

While I don’t think Hogan ever had the 24" pythons, you have to remember he was never really as “cut” as a body builder.

This is big.

Tweedy, bro, the guns are huge. No overpowering of the shoulders or chest that I can see.

I’m 5’9". Well, when I first wake up anyway, by the end of the day I’ve lost 1/2" somewhere. My arms are 20.5" At this height, everyone comments on their size or rather overall size. I’m at 245lbs.

But funny thing is, when I look down at them, they just don’t look all that to me. Perhaps when you live with them you get a distored view, or perhaps in my mind I can’t accept having “hit” that magic number. Perhaps some intorspection is in order.

I’d guess Hogan maybe hit 21" at the VERY most. Probably under that. Arnold’s were more impressive IMHO.

I’m still curious what Huge Arms have to do with strength sports…
Agreed…I can think of very few people who have monster arms and RESPECTABLE strength…Manfred Hoeberl who has curled 400 for reps and Bill Kazmier who I personally saw curl 315 for 15 easy reps…both close #3 CoC’s…In addition you would have to add Magnus S and Magnus Ver…Sigmarsson…I would bet in current days Andy Fields can curl some big weight and Joe Ladnier and of course Big Mike R…Billy Mimnaugh is one bone crushing strong guy as well and he bodybuilds like Andy F so I would bet on him as well…Nothing wrong with strong arm training…just big arms that aren’t strong…personally I might be incline to believe that Implants may be involved with that guy…the surgery is not indicative of a torn bicep…what a ruptured one is I have no clue…the abcess is a posibility but the rupture of an implant looks promising…lol

Man, you and I think alike. I do that with my arms all the time…traps too. I told my gf I was pissed that my traps weren’t as big as I would like and she said “you’re f’n kiddin me right?”

I guess seeing yourself every day has something to do with it.

Okay, IM 5’7" 220lbs and my arms cold are 17" I understand how most of us think we look small and it is due to the having to see oursleves every day. I personally would like to get to 18.5 to 19 because I have more of a Franco Columbo type arm physique. A short bicep and tricep just does not look as big as a long bicep and tricep even at the same size in circumfrance, (Or however you spell that word!!!) The only problem, Is the bigger my arms get, the more they fall asleep on me!

I have the same problem, and here I thought it was just me.

Do a cycle or two of EDT from Staley’s book, Massive Arms. I think you’ll enjoy the results.

I’ll second that. You won’t be disappointed.

Oh yeah. I have to lay with a pillow in front of my torso so I can “prop” my arm up. Otherwise my hands go to sleep. Also, my own bodyweight feels like it’s crushing me sometimes when I awaken from a deep sleep. As I’ve gotten above 200 or so (at my height) I’ve slowly had to continue to alter my sleeping postions. I’m wondering some 100 rep work a la Waterbury might help by increasing cap density.

I think there is some kind of distortion about yourself because you do live with yourself, as well as other, perhaps “bigorexic” underlying pathologies. ;-0.

My wife came into my workout room once and stood behind me. I didn’t know she was there. She told me that if I get any wider, I’ll be an embarassing freak! I laughed and took it as a compliment, but she was seriously mad. Again, I don’t think it’s much more than average. Women are crazy, eh IC?

Anybody ever feel like your arms are really heavy and almost cumbersome? I can do lateral raises to a moderate count and get an awesome pump with no weight but my arms after only 15 reps. I even feel like I want to prop them up sometimes to give my rotator cuff muscles a break. ;-). Anybody else on this odd stuff?

I’m not trying to be a dick but maybe you guys just aren’t in very good cardiovascular shape. I’m 6’2" and 277lbs at about 20% bodyfat. The last time that i actually sat down and measured my arms was probably when i was a freshman in college and i was about 215-220lbs and my arms were 18 inches. So at this weight I would say they are at least 20 maybe more. I have never had any problems with any of my appendages falling asleep or feeling uncomfortable under my own weight. But i’ve always been an athlete and I’ve always been in very good cardio shape so maybe that has something to do with it??? maybe your body is not as efficient at circulating blood to those extremities as it would be if you were in better cardio shape. Not trying to insult just giving my opinion.

I’ve always been in good cardiovascular shape up until this year. But last year when I played football, I was in very good shape and it still happened. I think that its more that I’m laying on my shoulder and probably all the mass from my chest and shoulder is pinching the subclavian. But thats just a guess.
