In the July 2006 issue of Muscle and Fitness I saw an article about what supplements you should take and when you should take them. It says to take 3-5 grams of arginine 30-60 minutes pre-workout.
On the other hand, I was reading in the December 2006 issue of Men’s Health, there’s a blurp saying, “You may want to avoid supplements that contain L-arginine.”
The article goes on to say that recent research has found that arginine taken pre-workout actually slows down your growth-hormone production. What are your thoughts?
From, all I’ve heard and read it might have some minimal efficacy. Nothing dramatic though. I wouldn’t spend my money on it though even though it’s cheap. The real rip-off is the expensive NO2 supplements that don’t do anything arginine doesn’t to the extent arginine does anything.
the most important factor is using a routine that optimizes hypertrophy. the little bit of HGH your pituitary pumps out every night is plenty enough to get you big if your routine is properly stimulating you to grow.
as for l-arginine, the best time to take it is at night, just before you go to bed. taking it during the day before you work out has no effect. taken at night it will boost your growth quite well, but only if you’re training is sub-optimal. if you’re training properly, you’ll already be in the maximum hypertrophy zone.
my advice is don’t waste your money on it. just find a basic bulking routine that gives you optimum hypertrophy. it may take some experimentation time, but when you find the routine that puts you in the zone, no amount of aminos or drugs are going to make you grow any faster, because you’ll already be achieving your growth potential. it’s not the amount of hormones in your body; it’s how you utilize them. unless you have a hormone deficiency, the amount of hormones you produce every day is ample.
if you’re eating animal products, even if it’s just dairy and eggs, you’re getting all the essential aminos you need to trigger hormone production and build muscle, in ample amounts. the idea that you can get something more from all these magic powders and pills is a myth. good diet, good training, and good sleep–that’s all you really need.

Sorry, but you just lost all credibility with that statement.
I guarantee that no matter what program you use, the right dose of exogenous T will help you grow faster.
give me an example of these superior results. how many pounds and inches, in what timeframe?

Dude, it’s common knowledge that your statement is completely wrong.

so where are these examples?
HI, sorry to hijack this thread, but i read some of Mykayl’s post, like the program he suggest, is violate everything in T-Nation. But does it matter? No. I don’t believe in his training program, i use what i response best, bodypart split, i can grow from doing 20-sets per bodypart, so it’s good for me. Give respect to other’s opinion. everyone is different.
why argue? try and see for yourself, if you get good response, keep it, if not, then change to something else.
Considering that we don’t grow inside the gym, but outside it, then I’m taking the stance that supplements will help a person recover. You can reach your tear down potential in the gym, but it’s the nutrition, supplements, and your body’s physiology that help you grow.
I don’t take anything with Arginine, but rather supplements that have a better response to my system. I believe the general consensus around T-Nation will be to spend your money on a better supp. Something like what Biotest offers for Amino Acids is one of those supplements in my opinion.

No arguing here, just pointing out the obvious – all things being equal you will grow significantly faster on a well-constructed angrogen cycle.
Only someone who doesn’t have a clue would argue with this.
