Disguised bragging might be some part of it but the aforementioned situations really DO get annoying when people have already made up their mind and start approaching you out of the blue with shit like: You know you gonna get liver tumors when you’re 40 right? I’m not making this up… you just wonder what their fucking problem is…

Anyways, what I tend to do (if it is a person I at least take somewhat seriously) I tell them in a calm and casual way:
“Well, Yeah I took them (watching their jaws drop), like between the age 9 and 12 (watch jaws hit the floor;take a break to fully enjoy the moment). This stuff called cortisone for asthma (Oh!). Apart from that, nothing.”, therewith thoroughly and truthfully answering the question.

I have yet to hear ANYONE around here talk about steroids. It’s all about teh creatinez baby! People actually treat it like it’s some shit you need to buy off of that shady dude in the back of the gym with the big-ass traps.

Ummm, there’s a forum dedicated to AAS

Double edit: Nevermind, I’m an asshole.

I’ve also never had a stranger come and ask me if I’d like to get together some time and “play raquetball”.

Would you be insulted if someone did?

I would just say “no thanks”. But no, I am not interested in dating other males.

I was talking about the gym, not T-Nation forum, if that’s what you thought.

Yo I’m fuckin on sooo many steroids yo d00d im on frikkin’ decavolbolde fuckin anawhore yo and fuckin primabolione salvatore corleone man that shit gets you ripped and cut brah.

Most people who aski if you’re on steroids are probably such douchebag pussies when they get into the weight room and have nothing close to the self-control required to maintain a healthy diet, so they lift regularly (but with little to no real effort) and see scant results.

They see someone else who lifts and gets huge results and assume those results occurred through steroids because they have no fucking concept of hard work and dedication.

The people who ask are saying much more about themselves than anyone they’re asking this of, so if you aren’t on steroids, take it as a complement to a certain degree.

One other thing: with so much talk about steroids in baseball these days, steroids are a much more prevalent topic of conversation now than ever before. As a result, questions like “are you on 'roids?” will naturally make their way into everyday conversation more frequently.

People start thinking every good power hitter is on steroids and it’s not a stretch to then start thinking, even subconsciously, that everyone who is “huge” is on steroids as well. So the question is a result of many things, only one of which is your size or build. You can let it bother you or you can take it well. It’s your choice.

It would suck if you did take roids and no one even asked if you worked out or anything…

LOL

yep, but how about a far more insulting question,

‘Do you lift weights?’
me and my gym buddy make up ridiculous answers for stupid questions like that. If people outside of the gym that we don’t know ask if we work out, we just tell them something completely off the wall. One of my favorites goes like this. “Do you workout?” “No, no, I just chew a lot of gum.” then quickly change the subject with no explanation. Its a comical, indirect way of telling someone they’re a dumbass right to their face. You’re gonna ask stupid questions, you get stupid answers.

My favourite goes like this.

“Wow, you’ve got bigger since I last saw you. Have you been working out?”

“No, I’ve been eating a lot of pork pies. It’s the jelly you see…”

I fucking love pork pie…

I put ketchup on it though, what jelly are you putting on it?

Try being in the army and dealing with all the soldiers asking you that. That’s when your superiors start to ask and then drug test after drug test.
hahaha, story of my life.

although not so much drug tests, more like my commander asking the medic to inspect my ass and back every drill.

they’re just pissed i’m 60lbs ‘overweight’ and run faster than them

I get it from time to time, I’ll hit the iron with my younger brother at his high school and even though I’m not that big (5’10, 185lbs) I’m very vascular. It use to irrate me a little bit, but I take it as a compliment now.

i do get asked that, i both take it as a compliment and get annoyed to hell by it. if im out with the wife shoppin or just runnin erands and get it from random people with a nice compliment then its cool.

but i a strength coach so when i get those questions over and over from the same people as if they dont beleive me or “wanna find out what im usin” ill let em know, thay need to STFU. another annoyance is when i get asked that by guys who wanna get but but they disregaurd questions on training, nutrition, sleep or anything else.
