'Are You on Steroids?!'
LiveFromThe781 wrote:
i wouldnt mind if i at least looked like i was on steroids.

dudes be comin up to me like, damn you got bigger since last time i saw you…are you on steroids?

somehow i went from getting asked if i was on steroids a lot to getting asked if i play football. only problem with the latter is that i dont know if theyre talking high school, college, pro or pop warner.
I actually get the same thing all the time. Although I am only 5’8", people assume I’m playing football or some shit. I used to play soccer in high school (faglol), maybe I should just start saying I am a punter.

and hundreds of faceless people on the internet.

well consider when you say you arent.

then the other person keeps insisting you are and trys to name off multiple reasons as to why you are. such as, a pimple anywhere on your body, the fact you didnt look the same 2 years ago or just because they need some way to rationalize with themselves for whatever reason that they insist on persisting.

it just gets annoying.

especially when whether they say it directly or not you know they’re automatically judging and labeling you based on some shit that isn’t even true. anytime you get mad, hell not even mad just a little frustrated “oh, look at that - roid rage”.

i remember i had this skin infection of some sort on my arm last summer, it was like these warts dont know how i got it but i had it for almost a year, it was awful. anyway everyone apparently become an M.D. when i got that because they were all able to tell me it was a direct response as to my steroid abuse which was nonexistent. oh yeah, and i was all of 195/200 pounds then.

call me guilty too as when i first started lifting i thought everyone slightly bigger than me was huge, people who i can outlift today. BUT, i never once have gone up to someone and accused them of using steroids. steroids have a bad image, i dont want to be associated with the image most people have of steroids whether or not i take them.

i guess you didnt see the video of Kai Greene walking down Venice Beach on St Patricks day. people dont give a fuck. people are ignorant and will say whatever the fuck they want to you. if 1/20 people comes up and asks if youre on steroids it just means the other 19 think it but dont say anything to your face.

btw it doesnt take much for the gen pop to think youre on roidz. especailly when theres so many idiots who dont look like they lift and still take juice. connect the dots between those mentalities and you’ll see the bigger picture.

It does get a little old…the running joke at my workplace is to call me “juice box” lol.

Agreed. People act like they are afraid to say shit to me most of the time now. I catch shit from friends…but then I always caught shit from them since I was around 200lbs.

If random people are actually saying shit like this to you, chances are it is some lame attempt at pointing out they think you lift weights. It has NOTHING to do with you actually looking like you are very big. The average person thinks Tom Cruise needs steroids to look the way he does. If you were really big, people would be less likely to say shit that could potentially piss you off while standing directly in front of you…they would also just assume you were instead of asking about it.

Either way, why is it always smaller guys making these threads? It isn’t a compliment. It damn sure isn’t when you get those looks all day every day. Some of you take it that way now because you are just happy someone somewhere thought you looked like you lifted weights. It loses its appeal when you KNOW you look like you lift weights.

How bout this, if the big guys in the gym you’re in want to train with you, offer to spot for you, or will come and chat to you, you know you’re making the type of progress that matters…

OK? I’ll tske it as a comliment. I’m 5-5 210 not fat. lifetime natural

My friends make jokes about it all the time but I never really took notice. Bout one or two weeks ago my closest friend took me aside to ask me seriously though. I’m not big at all, it’s just thay my newbie gains were quite good. And people who haven’t seen me in a while tend to compliment me, which is nice.

First, let me preface what I’m going to say with the fact that even if you use steroids, you obviously still have to train hard and eat well. I know this, but I would say that the majority of people don’t, and look at it as if you pop a pill, and POW! you’re huge and ripped.

I used to get this a lot, but even moreso now that I’ve competed. When your bf% is so low, no one realizes just how small you truly are because you look so big. One of the “trainers” at my gym walked around my entire prep telling everyone that I was on gear.

Not that I care if you are or not, but it was a damn disrespectful thing to do because it was an attempt to undercut my accomplishments, which is what really bothered me. Just this week a young kid asked me under his breath if I was on “The winny” because I had veins showing (and when he was on, he appeared more vascular).

Again, as much as I shouldn’t let it bother me, I felt like it was undercutting my knowledge of nutrition and training simply because it implied that I couldn’t possibly be in that kind of shape without some assistance. Obviously if I was 260 lbs with veins running everywhere I too would think I was on something, but in my case,… well, it just shows how uninformed most people are.

I agree with this. My feeling, rightly or wrongly, is that most steroid comments are veiled accusations of cheating.

Slander.

Punishable by a swift kick to the ball sack.

I’ve been asked a few times by guys my size or slightly smaller… The same two kids (who used to go to my ‘high school’) have asked me 3 times now.

It’s fucking annoying now. Since I know they are asking that because theres no way im getting bigger/stronger than them without some ‘help’…

Whenever I am practicing with my numchuks and doing sidekicks, people always ask me.

Which is why it surprises me that people are really taking this as a compliment. With steroids in the media the way they are, most of the time if anyone brings it up, they are NOT complimenting the way you look. They are saying you couldn’t have done that without drugs. Yes, that is a form of an insult when you are really big. They are not saying it like “congratulations on the hard work”.

Yes, I know when you are just getting started, ANY time someone notices your gains you get happy. For those of us who have lifted for several years and are used to standing out, we don’t get all giddy when people notice we lift. If anything, it is almost expected.

Good for you. It does surprise me that someone with those stats hasn’t posted any pics of his progress anywhere.

I mean, being 5’5", you should be developed enough for competition.

Well, considering how all the biggest guys at my gym are on steroids (yes, they speak about it openly - they don’t even try to hide it) and those at the summit of bodybuilding are on steroids it’s not ridiculous for people to assume if you body build you take steroids.

Seriously, who was the last relevant, to average Americans, bodybuilder to NOT be on steroids?

Some of you are pissed off many don’t know your hobby as well as you do. Considering how many here, on the bodybuilding forum, cannot name all previous Mr Olympias (without googling them) or even recognize some in pictures I don’t see why it’s a big deal that knowledge of the sport and its history are low.

Plus, we just had a poster claim to get pissed off about getting accused of being on steroids, but now that he takes them he still would deny it to everyone but a select few.

THIS is why people have a hard time believing people are clean! People are used to being lied to about this subject.

Plus, it’s not as if pro-athletes don’t have a history of denying drug use only to be busted months or years later…

Anyway, like others have said - you should take it as a compliment.

IM 15.And Ive been accused of juicing…Guys in other classes at my school swear that I juice.LOl and I am NOT big by any means, just bigger then them…Heck even my Physical Education teacher took my aside to ask me if I took steroidzzzzz…
lol
its pretty messed up ,but thats how people see it…

I’ve been accused a few times of roid useage, obviously by people who know literally dick about bodybuilding. I took it as a compliment, even if they’re suggesting I have to have help to get that big or want to downplay the progress out of jealousy, because I know I never have I can still consider it a compliment. If they want to be ignorant, it’s of no concern to me. But I get the football player thing a lot more

Just curious, do you tell your girl?

Everyone thought I was taking steroids when I gained my initial 25-30 lbs my first few months of lifting. My mom even tried to have a sort of an intervention…it was really gay. I think that was when I was like 185 lbs.
