Anybody here ever getting funny looks when they are working out?
It always feels like people are watching me; and more then have the time when I feel that way, I look around and people are watching me.
I don’t have two heads… a funny face and I don’t pick my nose and eat it. Why are these people always fucking staring at me!!!
I think I have found the answer! People stare at me because IF and when I am doing arm curls, my lower back and shoulders are not lifting most of the weight. When I do one arm dumbbell rows, I don’t move my entire body letting momentum do the work, I actually make it so my back lifts it… I think these people look at me and almost laugh because I am lifting less weight then them.
The reason I think this is is because sometimes after I am doing a set there are a few people in the gym that will wait until I look at them, and then as soon as we make eye contact, they will start doing the EXACT same exercise I am doing but with more weight. Following they will then look at me not with a smirk… but I can definitely sense something…
Anybody else experience this? Or am I the only one that goes to a gym filled with goofs?

Goofs? I get stared at every time I train pretty much anywhere I train. This is bodybuilding. The goal is to stand out.
People are staring at you because they are either impressed, repulsed, amused, or are waiting on you to kill yourself publicly.
Competing is human nature. So is jealousy. It takes effort to not have these emotions overcome your training. Most people do not realize this and try to work out their ego. Just forget about them.
Thats the way I learned to lift properly. Picked out the guys with the best form, best build and biggest attitude and copied them. It wasn’t until I started doing things the right way that any of the serious lifters would even look at me let alone talk to me.
I get a lot of looks when using a dip belt on chins/dips, and when doing deads and o lifts. I usually get 2 spotters on squats too, so lots of looks then.
Got a good quick story…was doing deads and this old russian guy was watching me. After I was done he comes over and asks in a thick russian accent “can I have some of your magic powder?”…i had no clue what he was talking about until he pointed to my bag of chalk, fuck i laughed at that one, gave him some chalk and he was a happy camper.

I always get looks when using a dip belt. I guess it’s because everyone there doesn’t understand the concept of work. They do ASS-isted dips & chins and get absolute dog shit results.

Fuckin russians… lol.
I get looks from the members and trainers at my gold’s gym from time to time… The other day i was doing squats superset with burnout squat jumps. I could hear a trainer and his buddy 10 ft away talking shit about my “stupid 8th grade football squats” and the trainer was explaining why his squat was stronger… he said cuz they werent doing that shit “between sets”. They were doing smith machine squats with the little pad attached and only 30 more pounds than me (i guess i didnt count his reps, but it didnt seem like he cranked out 30 or anything). i give them props on depth tho, actually got to 2/3 way down which is a lot more than can be said for most people at my gold’s.

I lift at home in my sun room so not a lot of people besides neighbors see me.
However, I had a guy standing out in front of my house on the ice the other day watching me snatch. 100 feet away just staring into my house.
The Guy Next Door?
Sounds like the next Brokeback Mountain.[/quote]
It wasn’t the guy next door, just some random guy out for a walk on the ice. Typically there are not people standing out in front of my house close enough to look in.
My neighbors know I lift and can see into my sun room because it is by definition made of glass. Never caught them staring though.
only when i squat, which doesn’t make sense because i just got over an elbow injury about three weeks ago and am only up to a 315 1RM. must be how red my face gets or the fact that i go more than 1/4 down, or that i actually do all the sets. mostly the two guys doing six types of shrugs behind me, but have had the same size traps since august.

Exactly this is the kind of shit I am talking about. They laugh at me because they are using significantly more weight then me for arm curls and such but there arms are the same size they were 6 months ago! It is retarded.
All the time! I once had the entire gym staff stare at me while I did a set of burn out push ups. It’s like they have never seen someone almost pass out before. I can’t wait to move so I can stop going to the neighborhood Bally’s.

The Smith bar usually weighs less than 45 so you were probably out lifting him anyway.
