I find it disingenuous to discuss Americans killed by “big pharma” without discussing how many years have been added to American lives by “big pharma.”
Does anyone actually believe that R&D is without cost? Without R&D would we have the current level of drugs available to Americans?

The logic is more money no matter what. Economist Michael Hudson calls it wealth addiction.
Already after the deaths from the drug occurred. They got too much bad press and the company could suffer even more if they continued. Besides they already made the money they set out to.

The data also indicate that the risks from Vioxx remain long after patients stop taking the drug.
And where is the informed choice here?
A lot of the cost of the seed money for new drug creations are provided by the government.

Spoiler: There aren’t any. Healthy people don’t need them. Medications are typically a stop gap to treat chronic conditions and reduce suffering.

Life expectancy doesn’t address how many years of life were added from the use of new drugs.
You have stated how poor America’s food choices are. And most all Americans aren’t starving for lack of calories, though they might be starving nutritionally. Excess empty calories shorten life expectancy.
How much shorter might America’s life expectancy be without “big pharma?”
US tax dollars funding every new pharmaceutical in the last decade is not the same as US tax dollars supplying the entire funding of every new pharmaceutical in the last decade.
