Anything's Possible

Hi MIM, just checking in on you to see how you are doing.
I third the country club idea. They have money, so you’re guaranteed long-term and then there are those who have time on their hands because they are stay-at-home moms.
I know traffic in that area is a bitch but sometimes you have to sacrifice if the price is right.
I’ve driven an hour to do 5 very well paid hours of work. It was worth every penny.

Alisa’s list is spot-on. When I worked at the hotel, guests would call for the weirdest things. You just never know. There’s also a guy who runs a boot camp in the fitness center at my apartment complex. I don’t know if it’s legal or not but he has quite a following. He brings in his own bands, TRX straps, one or two KBs, jump ropes, etc.

Having lost 50lbs, you are your best before/after.

ok, I’m done.

just saying HI! you are getting some good advice here so i’ll just say i hope you find what works best for you, your goals and your family.

have a great christmas!

Hope everyone’s xmas was good!

Unfortunately, Santa brought me HIVES! It sucks, and I wish I knew what the culprit was…

I’ve been complaining a long time of how corn makes my throat scratchy when I eat it(same for melons, and avacado) so maybe I really AM allergic? I dunno…the only other thing is the ham glaze that I used…it had some questionable ingredients(maltodextrin, silicon dioxide??)

If this claritin doesnt kick in, I may have to go to the ER…and I was going to go to the gym, lol…
Its getting a little hard to breath(wheezy) and my throat started to hurt awhile ago…

this SUCKS!

Oh no mama!! Please take care! Hope you feel better and keep us posted.

Huge bummer. I hope you are feeling better.

X2

Thank you.
Im doing ok …I was having some flare ups through the night, but none so far this morning…and my throat doesnt feel like its closing in on me anymore, so thats good!
My hubby was teasing me and says that the kids were stressing me out causing me to break out in hives
I really wish I knew! I have a feeling it might be corn…if hives weren’t an immediate response to something Id also say it was the avocado I had a few days ago :idk:

Yikes, sorry to hear about that. I’d hazard a guess that it was more likely corn than avocado due to the timing of the reaction, and the fact it’s a pretty common allergan (enough there’s a whole website dedicated to it: http://www.cornallergens.com/ )

Sudden allergies can also be a sign of a weakened immune system. I’m one of the least allergic people I know (no hay fever, asthma, cat or dog problems - the only thing that bothers me is sticking plasters) but in 2007, which I remember not so fondly as the year I broke my immune system, I developed a really horrific rash after sampling perfume, and had to get prescription strength steroid cream to fix it. I went on to catch every virus going over the next 8 months, plus a load of other stuff, but fortunately I got better and I’ve not come down with a full-blown cold in two years now. Just keep an eye on your health if you are under any stresses (whether it’s life, not sleeping well, exercising too hard or whatever).

Im wondering also if you can be allergic to something and not have a reaction to it, but later on in life you do? does that even make sense?

For example, a relative ate peanuts all her life and one day, she ate some and she got the whole going into shock thing, and if she hadnt made it to the hospital within 5 minutes she wouldn’t have made it!

This is why I stay away from melons, avocados and raw veggies…cause my throat gets all scratchy and my voice horse…I started to react to corn in the same way.

Some of my joints are now stiff, my ankle and fingers…and Im having a hard time taking a deep breath…corn??? Like all corn products, or just straight corn?

I guess Ill be asking for that allergy test now!

Yeah it’s very possible (the allergy building thing). One of my boyfriends got an itchy throat from tomatoes. I don’t think it’s a good sign.

Have a read of this as well. I like this site a lot - makes a lot of sense to me. The Definitive Guide to Grains | Mark's Daily Apple

Thanks Cal, I like that site as well…

I want an allergy test done NOW!! But don’t know who to ask…I tried to talk to my provider about food intolerance’s and the thyroid and she thought I was on crack…that, “I was hunting for Zebras.”

I need a follow up appt with the endo anyway. They may not think Im so crazy!

MIM, you are totally not crazy! In the past 5 years i’ve had all sorts of weirdo allergic reactions where my throat kind of closed up on me. First I thought it was shellfish, but then it happened with other random foods, most recently with bluberries. It can be really scary, so I understand your concern. Unfortunately, I went to an allergist 2x and they couldn’t find a thing!

At any rate, try not to stress about it. It could just be a random intolerance you had at that time to some protein in the food or even something the food was treated with (pesticides, fertilizer). But yes, don’t listen to your doc, get your tests done. And if you’re up for it, get your throat checked or your stomach, just to make sure its not related.

hi MIM-sorry to hear about these issues-i hope you get it sorted out quickly. and i truly hope your doc doesn’t give you the run-around, you definitely need to look into it.

i’m sure it’s difficult, but try not to stress, as that will likely make it worse. take care!

Thanks…just watched FOOD INC for the first time…my SIL got it for me for xmas…hubby watched it too…

He said ‘now what the hell are we supposed to eat for dinner?!’

The movie definitely makes you think…

Hubby gave me the best present today…he announced that he will no longer buy any food that comes in a box!!!

He is in agreement with me, and doesn’t want our kids to be made of sugar and flour and whatever other chemicals come along with processed food…

I wish we could find a local farmer to buy organic meat from…
But Im happy with the small steps we are taking so far…

He even bought me a couple gluten free baking books for xmas and encouraging me to cook and make more things from scratch!

Gotta go to the docs tomorrow, cause these hives arent going away, and have now spread to my face!!

Argh how infuriating! I hope the itching isn’t too bad. Do you have cream?

Get ready for your grocery bill to double! Yey!

Oh no, don’t say that Bobbi! Guess I’ll have to find two jobs then
It’s more about making better choices…no more pop tarts, toaster strudels, sugary cereals, oreos, hamburger helper, hot dogs, spaghettios, fish sticks or snacky cakes…grocery bill should go down in my opinion…

I always buy the healthy stuff, but the hubby turns around and buys the crap…its what he grew up with!
But he’s learning that just cause he CAN eat it, doesnt mean he SHOULD…and if its not in the house then the kids wont eat it either…its not too late!

Looking forward to going to the gym this morning…I’ll take last week as my recovery week.

No hivey flare ups either…not sure if I want to waste my time at the docs office, when I have nothing to show for…the Navy docs here on base are a joke anyway.

A friend gave us some home made MOOSE jerkey to try…
YUM!!

Moose Jerkey, breakfast of champions!

That is a HUGE breakthrough with hubby! Frankly, your weight loss over this past year is even more amazing considering you did it with all that crappy food in the house.
