Anyone Try 20-Rep Squats?

Doing a 20 rep set of front squats is the only thing that can put enough stress on my system to make me throw up.
I have never thrown up from training other than the times I do 20 rep squats and the time I did a strength session followed by a 2km run followed by a sprints session with my track team. Yes, the latter time I also redded out a few times. It was a learning curve.

Hmmmm. I have forgotten the point in this post.

Either way, thumbs up to 20 rep sets! It teaches you to tolerate pain, something I think everyone needs to learn.

been doing them for the past 4-6 weeks because of a nagging knee problem.

they fuckin suck and I haven’t noticed any decrease in leg size from it.

heres my question when yall do 20 rep squats to failure aka breathing squats, or breathing leg press do you do more than 1 set? cause i usually do 3 sets or so.

i do 3

I believe the original routine was ONE all-out set of 20 reps.

My next workout it tomorrow. Any advice on if I should take more time to breathe between reps?

20 rep squats are great in the morning for cardio before breakfast, provided the weight is light enough

Ummmm, 20 rep squats and cardio are completely incomparable! They use different energy systems, and I would never ever REPLACE cardio with 20 rep squats.

running on a treadmill or sitting my ass down on a bike gets boring fast so i need more entertaining ways to raise my heartrate

so i put 4 compound exercises together with 15-20 reps each and do that circuit 3-4 times in the morning

i still end up sweating a lot and it leaves me energized for the actual evening workout

exactly

Honestly 20-rep squats are supposed to be near impossible to do. By that I mean, after number 20 you should not be able to do 21. And each workout you add at least 5 to 10 lbs to the bar.

The reason people work up to such big weights with 20-rep squats is because they keep adding weight to the bar every workout.

And as far as it being a 6-week program, anyone who can stay on the program for that long is a hero in my book! It is so taxing on your entire body, it’s just amazing someone could push themselves that hard for that long 3 times a week.

I was going good on the program for 3 weeks, then I started getting major bad headaches, had to stop the program and have yet to start back up. But I also just cracked a rib because of all the pullovers I was doing, so be careful with those!

So if you want to do 20-rep squats, 3 DEEP BREATHS between EACH rep (as deep as you can, suck in even more air right before you descend and hold that breath til your on your way up). By 10 you should feel like the next rep is your last, but you keep going, deep breathing determination, keep your attention fixed staring into the abyss as you count down the last few reps.

After you’ve done 20 reps with a weight, add 5 or 10 pounds the next workout with the intent to do all 20, be sure to eat alot and drink at least a gallon of whole milk every day.

Do that for pretty much as long as you can take it then switch to a 5x5 program for a while to let your CNS recover and whenever you feel like you need a challenge, go back to the 20 rep’s.

Those who are big fans of the 20 rep squat should give this a read. It was good up unitl the 4th or 5th session.

At this point I was almost going to start reading bb.com articles just to get away from the pain that this article produced

But I stopped at the end of week 4 because the day before week 5 started I did my knee.
It was workin well though, may have to try it again
