hahah

I’ll have to check it out some time!

Just wondering, have any of you been to the gym at UCSD? I haven’t been there before. An acquaintance of mine who works for the campus police mentioned they have a pretty nice gym as well.
I have never worked out at UCSDs gym, but my dad works at UCSD and works out at their gym 5-6 days a week. He has said nothing but positive things about the gym, but he is a 65 year old male who no longer has the same goals as we do. I am not very sure of their set-up

Yea, the RIMAC center at UCSD has an excellent setup. 9 or 10 racks, rubber plates for oly lifting, dumbbells go to 120 which could be better but it’s still superior to most gyms. Got a trap bar, cambered bar, tons of plates, two pullover machines, a GHR or two, a decent amount of plate loaded machines. Only thing I wish they had was a leg press that could hold more than 8 plates a side, otherwise the equipment is fantastic. I’ve seen at least one other T-Nation shirt there before as well not including myself. Oh, and they are chalk-friendly.

^^sounds legit.

Speaking of San Diego gyms, I had the privilege of touring SDSU’s athlete weight room a couple months back. It is definitely a dream gym: Platforms, ranks, GHRs, reverse hypers, bumper plates, sleds, tires, ropes, etc. It was awesome. Funny thing is that I was able to slip into the actual complex without incident. It was after hours, so the weightroom was locked, but I suspect that if I had come during the day it would have been open. Then all you’d have to do is wear some SDSU gear and you’d be in.

I’m sure the scenery is better at SDSU’s rec center, though.

Is it the Golds over by the sports arena? I’ve driven by that one before, but it is too far from where I live.
D’oh!

I totally forgot it was there. I used to pass by that place all the time when me and my friends would hit up Phil’s BBQ.
phil’s bbq is the shit! Also the Golds is in the same parking lot as In N Out  mmmmmmm In N Out

.greg.
Oh fuck yeah…I try to make a couple of visits to Phil’s every time I’m out in SD for work.

I also train at that Gold’s when I’m out there. Since I’m a member here in DC, I can use any Gold’s outside the area up to 14 times a year for free, which is pretty nice. I really like the outdoor area and +1 on the eye candy.

I’ve also gone to the World Gym up in PB, which is awesome. They have quite a few figure competitors working out there as well, so the eye candy is really nice. They also have a monolift, a reverse hyper, a sled, and lots of other PL friendly equipment, which is awesome. But I only go there for squat days.

Last time I was in there, this hot ass figure chick walks by…a few steps later, I look on the wall and see an 8’ advertisement for some supplement company…who is the sponsor? Same figure chick that just passed by. I thought that was pretty random. But yeah, lots of hardcore dedicated lifters there.

Didn’t realize there were so many San Diego peeps on here tho. I’ll have to give this thread a shout before I head out there next and maybe some of us can meet up and train together.

^^yeah world gym has some sick equipment. That giant tire they have outside is awesome.

definitely hit this thread up before you come to town. So is that “14 times” thing mean 14 trips a year to any other golds gym? (I was a little confused when the guy was explaining it to me) So if i go to seattle and hit a golds thats 1 and then I have 13 more to use at any Golds gym through out the year?

(sorry if thats confusing)

.greg.

kind of a hyjack, but if you guys dig Phils, you need to hit up Bonnie Jeans, can’t remember the address but it’s near-ish downtown.

Great food there, for the southern-soul food fan

No. Its actually 14 visits to each individual Golds. So if you go tot he one in Seattle, you could go there 14 times, and then go to a different city and use that Gold’s 14 times, and so on. Basically, you’ll never run out of options if you travel. Even if there is more than one Golds in a city, you can use each of them 14 times.

^^thats sick! And its 14 in year right? Then the 14 time counter resets each year?

Also when you’re in SD have you ever eaten at Hash House A Go Go? You being a big powerlifter (if thats you in your avatar) would probably love that place cause they have HUGE portions and its amazing. If you have eaten there yet you HAVE to go there next time your in SD.

Yup, resets every year…essentially, you will never run out of places to lift.

Nah I’ve never been to Hash House, but I do like me some huge portions…I’ll check it out next time I’m in town.

the athletes weight room here is no joke here. i couldn’t believe my eyes when i first saw it. a huge fucking tire, shit ton of kettlebells, medicine balls that go up to 75lbs, DB up to 150, literally 15 racks…it is gorgeous.

today was really nice and I hit up the outdoor gym for my first shirtless workout at the new gym. It was pretty nice and hopefully will help me get my summer tan. Also there were A LOT of babes at the gym today. It was awesome

Sounds like a gym worth checking out. Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it!

Did a search on yelp on this place. Seems to get some really good reviews…I’ll definitely have to check it out one of these days.

Yeah, it was really nice in SD today. I hit the gym too but for some reason or another I didn’t really have a great workout. Probably my lack of sleep…oh well, back at it again tommorrow!

Oh and by the way, have any of you been to Urban Body Gym in North Park? I’m thinking about checking it out some time this week. An acquaintance of mine from my old gym said they have madd free weights there and that I’d love it.

yeah I actually tried that place out cause its right down the street from my house. They do have a lot of good stuff but its really small and pretty expensive IMO. Its definitely worth checking out. They do a 3 day free pass thing so go and check it out. FYI if you hit up the smoothy bar be weary… it wasnt that great.

.greg.

wait now that I think about it I dont think they have a lot of free weights. They have only 1 squat rack and I think two bench presses? One pull up bar thats part of the cable station. Its usually not that busy so equipment was usually free when I was there but yeah… check it out for yourself and see whats up. They’ve got a wall in the back with a ton of BBers pictures that are autographed thats pretty cool. They also have a couple plaques from their sponsored float at the Pride Festival which really wasnt my style lol.
