I’m also really looking forward to The Division. It’s supposed to be a real game changer for social shooters. We’ll see.

Nice, I just saw it. I’ve got high hopes for it. I hope the story is long enough though since there’s no multi-player.
I would assume that.

I don’t know. I keep hearing 6-8 hours. That translates to probably 10-12 for me (I like to explore for the inevitable collectibles), but that’s not worth $60 in my book. Not anymore.

Really. When is it targeted to come out? If it really is only 6-8 the word will be out after one week and will kill sells. Games like that I always wait a couple weeks.

That would piss me off so bad if it’s truly only 6-8 hours to complete. I didn’t do any research on the latest MGS game, dropped the $30 and literally completed the mission in 45 minutes. Even if the next MGS game is 50 hours long and gets crazy reviews, I’ll be boycotting it.

Well, to be fair, the new MGS was only supposed to be a taste of the game to come. I’ve heard the full game is supposed to be mind blowing and I’m not a huge Metal Gear fan.
I agree though, the $30 tag was BS.

Agreed! Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas and Skyrim were some of the best games I’ve played recently.
I think that Far Cry 4 attempted to follow the same formula, but the world felt less interesting and lifeless than with Skyrim and Fallout because when you discovered a new area, it unlocked all new events, missions and areas.
In Far Cry, you’d discover a new area and every single one was either abandoned or it was just “kill all enemies” but no story or substance.
Have either of you played The Last of Us? Not an open world sandbox, but the story was great.
I think I’m part of about 1% of gamers that did not like The Last of Us… I played it for a little while and just couldn’t get into it. I don’t like games where you’re basically helpless and have to sneak around/run for your life. I prefer games where you become unstoppable if you put the time in (like Fallout or Skyrim).
Far Cry 4 is also good, but ya not on the same level.
Agreed about TLOU. Good game at best, i traded it in about 70% of the way through.
Uncharted 2 and especially 3 are the superior games, far and away. People dont like to admit it though because everyones a critic and you get no credibility if you choose the blockbuster summer time action flick over the darker tone and tougher moral dilemmas of TLOU.
I completely agree about the Uncharted games. Much better imo.
Yeah, as i said i didnt even bother to complete TLOU. I have played through uncharted 2 several times, and i recently went back to Uncharted 3 for a second playthrough. Even after already beating it once and owning PS4 for a year i was still blown away by Uncharted 3’s production values and gameplay.
I dont know of any game that makes a stronger first impression than Uncharted 3 does with the opening pub brawl sequence. It is so fun it makes me laugh out loud.

I wasnt sold on this game until the most recent trailers. Dont know why they held back on the good stuff for so long but now i finally get why people should be excited for it.
If the initial reviews are promising and the game has decent replay value ill pick it up.

One thing I’d ask both of you is what difficulty level you played TLoU on? In my experience, playing on Hard or Survivor materially impacts both how much I enjoyed the game and how attached I became to both “myself” as Joel/Ellie and my relationship to other characters.
Uncharted, my main problems (though I love the games) is that they are very formulaic and not very difficult.

I played on normal. With games like that im more interested in experiencing the story and going at my own pace so i had no interest in a brutally difficult campaign.
Uncharted is not a difficult series but on the hard and very hard difficulty settings i found it provided a stiff challenge. I actually played through them on every difficulty normal and up, i found it to be a satisfying challenge.
They are formulaic but they are done to the highest possible standards.

Pretty much this. I usually play a game through on normal (maybe hard if it’s a FPS I’m familiar with) and then hit up hard or higher difficulty levels if it’s worth a replay. Most games, imo, are not.

So I’d make a couple of points. This is just IMO, but I don’t think you experience the story the right way unless you play it at a setting that is seriously challenging to you. The issue is not the sense of accomplishment from getting through a scene so much as building a sense of yourself into the character you’re navigating.
Spoilers
The example I’d use is when Joel gets impaled on the stake during the third season. The area right before that was one that I found quite difficult; moving into that cut scene, having that happen after having just gotten through the difficult area made my stomach absolutely drop. I dropped the controller and had to just sit down. There’s no way I’d have had that reaction if I were just coasting through Normal. In that sense, really experiencing the story required the challenge. My view is that because the game is inherently “Survival Horror” in nature and thus requires a legitimate feeling of “anything can happen” alongside the aforementioned need to identify with the character you’re playing.
