I got my ps4 around 8 months ago and ive beaten Knack,Rayman legends, infamous second sons, injustice, and now im about 75% of the way through shadows of mordor and was curious if anyone has any recommendations for a good PS4 game i could pick up thats out… i preordered FFXV months ago hoping it was going to come out dec of this year as i read it was going to but i guess they pushed back the date till Dec of next year(go figure). Kind of in need of a new game. TIA

Destiny is a sweet game cant put it down
I’m just curious. Are there any posters here older than say…24, who play PC and console games? I used to play video games when I was a teenager but most of them lost their charm as I got older. I always liked adventure / problem solving games that have a realistic world to explore and an interesting story line. But I find they just take up too much time to explore these sorts of games nowadays at my age. So hold old are you older gamers and how much time would you say you spend playing video games?
I’m reaching 42 in a couple of months and still play games. However I have a partner who’s also very much a gamer, neither of us are interested in parenting (we just leave the kids to fend for themselves), so it’s much easier to devote time to gaming as we typically buy into games we can play together - fantasy strategy games, WoW, that kind of stuff plus the odd single player “must play” titles like FarCry, Skyrim etc.
I’m a bit ADD however and often find, even with plenty of time on my side, that I have difficulties finishing single player games. I often just lose interest in it/find it repetitive before the finale, so we’re usually back into coop mode pretty quickly. My prettier half also works away a lot, so this affords us some ‘together’ time as we kill things and shoot the shit over Skype. 
Time? I would say we spend probably an hour or two most evenings.

Destiny was very good, even co-op (while occasionally buggy) was a riot.

I have a confession to make. I stopped playing video games over ten years ago. For one thing it was by necessity as a I had full time study on my plate and menial work with long hours to support myself. But I was also finding that I was no longer drawn into and captivated by the game worlds like I used to. The magic seemed to be gone. Having said that, I have relapsed a few times over the last ten years and played a game here and there. As I said, I always liked games that immerse you in another world and allow you to explore it to a great degree. A couple of games I got into playing in recent times that I liked were:

The Walking Dead. I knew nothing about it when I started playing and initially it seemed like a poor quality, boring story/game. But then the plot drew me into the world and I enjoyed exploring and progressing the story.

Red Dead Redemption. I thought it was pretty cool exploring the frontier and the towns of the old west on horseback. Not the best gameplay but it got me engrossed for a number of hours.
A couple more were okay. I feel a bit foolish playing video games at my age though. I don’t think I’d go out and buy a new console though. Is the play station 4 a lot better than the xbox one? From what I remember it’s got a slightly better game card and resolution and frame rate but there were disadvantages too. I thought the xbox one is supposed to be better in other ways. Don’t remember all the details though. I’m not a tech head and I doubt I’d bother to buy a console anyway.
Oh, and some of the First Person Shooters with good campaign story lines and gameplay have been pretty good. I thought some of the military shooters and Tom Clancy shooters - some of the Splinter Cell games are pretty good. And the Call of Duty games are not bad. Again, I can’t invest a lot of time in them though.

Is this the Steam one; story-driven and cartoonish where you have to make decisions occasionally on who gets to live or die? I enjoyed that too, till the ADD kicked in hah! Was a nice change of pace for a while though. It kinda brought the older point and click-to-investigate games to mind, with just the occasional “OH SHIT!” moment when you got a little too relaxed and took your fingers off the keys.

I don’t get that personally. Different strokes for different folks obviously, but I’ve never stopped being a big kid at heart really- I still play D&D with a bunch of folk around my age. =)

Actually, I’m not a fan of the cartoonish style but sometimes it works as in TWD. What I like a good single player story and a world to explore that unlocks the story and side missions/extras etc. Some worlds I can’t get into; particularly the repetitive ones. As I said, I like FPSers so long as they don’t require too much time to progress the story. For example, I thought the most recent Max Payne game; immersive story with a dreamlike atmosphere where your character almost becomes an unreliable narrator.
When I was really young, like 8 or 9, our school computers were Apricots and I had a Commodore 64. That’s when I got into text adventures; games with no graphics - only text. And you’re required to navigate through the world with programming-like commands: go North, look at fountain, take coin etc. And then use objects, information and observation to solve problems to progress the story. They were designed for abstract problem solving skills. This is how I got a bit interested in gaming. And then later when graphics developed enjoyed a lot of different types of game so long as they had a story to progress; an element of being immersed in another world with places to explore and problems to be solved by lateral thinking. HALO games were okay for a while but they quickly became “arcadish” and repetitive and I lost interest in progressing the story(a story that turned out to be a little convoluted and not very intriguing). Great games though still.
Yeah, I guess so. It’s just they’ve lost their magic a bit as I’ve gotten older; not as immersed in the stories and atmosphere as much; don’t have as much time to invest in progressing the story.

PS - I doubt anyone is interested but all the best text adventures from the golden era of text adventures are online for free to download or just play online. Just google. One if my favourites was the Zork games and also “Wishbringer”. To be honest, I don’t play text adventures anymore.
And lastly, there is an absolutely brilliant arcade game series - Ninja Gaiden. It’s been around for years and the latest one in the series is absolutely crap. But Ninja Gaiden II which I played on Xbox 360, is an absolutely phenomenal arcade game. Seriously, if it’s available on your platform you’ve got to get this game!
Yea I can relate to how games have changed over the years. I played the occasional text one back in the 80’s too and agreed, despite not offering anything in the way of visual eye-candy - they did well to challenge and keep you hooked. The Hobbit or whatever it was for the Spectrum?!
I also get the repetitive complaint - I think that’s at the root of me quitting most single-player games apart from the really stand-out ones. Shadows of Mordor, great and then bored midway through. FarCry 1 and 3 however… couldn’t get enough of them.
The ones that really keep my attention, well, ‘one’ if I’m being truthful is WoW. Have played it off and on since beta back in… jings, nearly a decade ago now. It’s a crazy, occasionally all-consuming, time sink but I just can’t help going back for more. Like a crackwhore who has occasional bouts of sober lucidity, I go “Nahhh… this shit is dangerous…”
and then before I know it I’ve had a bad day at work or something and I’m sat again at that desk, staring down the pipe/character login screen. =P
Truth be told if I didn’t have a partner who was the exact same things would be very different.

Ooh did not know this cheers! I think I’ll hit one of these for nostalgia’s sake. 
Some of the Battlefield games are good too. I like FPSers so long as the gameplay is good(not annoying) and there’s an immersive story line. There was one game, I can’t remember the title - I think it was a Battlefield or Call of Duty title maybe - where you play levels as the terrorists. You shoot up a Russian airport as a mole in the terrorist group. That game had a pretty intense storyline from what I remember. And it had car chases through urban environments. I can’t remember the name of the title at the moment though.

No shit…I tried to watch the interview on the ps4 viewer it was a nightmare. Do you guys now what programs or sites you need to install programs for ps4 so you can watch movies? Also i heard ps4 has a platform where you can watch live stuff like ufc/boxing & other sports @ no charge. Any of yall figured that out?

I use youtube and Netflix, you can also try Hulu also one other popular version movie streamer you can use but I forgot the name.
I got a ps4 and shadow of mordor for Christmas. The game seems pretty cool so far. Reminds me of arkham a little.
Also, i’m 34 and still play games. Probably around three times a week i’ll play for a few hours or so.
I use netflix all the time no problem… youtube wont let me play movies unless I download chrome or firefox…but when I try to dl those programs it wont take. I thought it had something to do with the korean hackers
