Anyone Not Use Protein Shakes?

Protein shakes are pretty expensive these days, especially with miscelar casein in it so wondering any shakes people can recommend for:

  1. before bed 2. post-workout

that tastes good as well??

Cheapest option is to buy pure WPI or WPC and mix other shit with it in a blender, or drink it by itself. Doesn’t taste as good but your drinking it for the protein not the taste.

Expensive? Break down any brand into price per serving and you may reconsider.

Personally, I think protein powders are quite cost effective.

In my opinion, if you can afford a gym membership, you can afford a protein shake.

To get the same amount of quality protein found in whey you would have to eat some pretty expensive food…

It might actually be more cost effective to use protein shakes, even if you only use it after a workout.

i found a place that sells unflavored whey for $3.80-$4.00/lb

the big tubs of whey at GNC are about $7.00/lb (at least they were last time i looked)

i learned to drink them fast and not care about taste.

mm… all good but was sorta looking for a nighttime shake for before bed, recommendations??

i have a shake breakfast and after workout (morning workout) so didnt wanna use protein powder 3 times a day…

casein is overrated but if you must…cottage cheese?

casein overrated really, wat makes u say that?? so you think standard whey will suffice for before bed with milk and PB

I have 3 shakes a day…but I balance it with a ton of whole foods too.

Some people’s diets and time just aren’t fit for trying to eat 3-7,000 in whole food calories.

I would if I could; but I can’t…so I won’t.

And live yogurt too if the cheese makes you fart all night and your girl won’t put out for weeks because of it.

I tend to think whey is a bit overrated and prefer casein or a blend most of the time.

As far as cost per gram of protein, Biotest’s products are typically cheaper than getting protein from quality sources of beef, chicken, or fish. Mind you, I’m not giving up any of these, but quality protein powder isn’t that expensive when you compare the cost to other protein sources.

Of course, you can always buy a really cheap protein powder from China if you feel lucky.

or you could buy some Grow! Whey from T-Nation. 5lbs for 30 bucks.

Because for the benefits you get and for what you pay, it might not be worth it. Standard whey with milk and PB might actually do the trick. I mean sure casein may optimize everything, but unless you are a hardcore bodybuilder, it might not really make a difference.

I’ve went without drinking protein at night and having cottage cheese vs. taking a casein vs. taking regular whey…i don’t notice that one was better than the other.

cheers fellas really helpful, so a shake with cottage cheese, PB and PP aweseom

I get 20kg for $300 of unflavoured (good quality stuff as well). Supps are really expensive if bought within Australia, unless you get from a wholesaler.

I do one shake a day before bed. Rest of the day is whole food. Shake is:

2 scoops protein
1/3-1/2 cup of coconut milk or 1 tbsp olive oil
cinnamon
psyllium husk

She’d get the ole dutch oven treatment for trying that!

personally protein shakes late at night keep me up!
make sure you have more steak than protein powders anyway.
IE solid food! wins everytime.

There is nothing wrong with 8oz steak , and a huge yam or rice pwo.I notice no different in training!

I love eating steak either T bone or Filet Mignon.

steak is awesome. I love the 16-22 oz varieties though, so I save that for weekends. Else it is eye of round or sirloin.

A great meal would be steak, broccoli, and roasted vegetables. If i want carbs, a baked yam would be ideal or brown rice.

Now to spoil myself, that is a huge steak, onion rings or baked potato, and caesar salad
