Anyone Have Or Use A Wave Bag?

Not sure if this is the right place, Mods please move if necessary.

Has anyone used one of those wave bag heavy punching bags? These are the ones with the bladder you fill with water rather than old clothes or batting? The used sporting goods store has one for $50.00 and I figure it should weigh about 100-140lbs once full.

Thanks

I started using a Wave bag but never really liked it. No matter what I put in there it was never stable enough to really hit with hard combinations. I switched to heavy bag hanging from the cieling and have been much happier. I now use the heavy bag for my punching workouts with either weighted or unweighted boxing gloves and I use the Wave bag with my MMA gloves for speed workouts. I also use the Wave for working some kicks. If you cannot hang something from the cieling the Wave is certainly your best choice. If you can hang something them I would go with heavy bag or banana bag if you are working on muy thai. Hope this helps.

wave bags are easy on the joints kind of mushy when you hit it.some have a layer of foam around which I dont like .I hit really hard and there it too much give for my personal taste .it hard to tell if you are use proper form when you hit you should here pop pop not a dull thud with a harder bag you know when you are hitting it right when you hear the pop and jumps up and down on the chains .

As long as you get the full length one it will be fine for the average guy hitting the bag. If your a boxer or have been training on a traditional bag you might not like the change. It worked for my 275lbs friend who used it for kickboxing. For me it was nice not ripping my hands to pieces when I decided to use it once every 2 weeks.

I have a wavemaster. It’s a bit different in that it’s a standing bag and you fill the base with water. It’s inferior to a proper hanging heavy bag, but for the price (about $150) you can’t go wrong. You’ll need a little space to use it in cuz that sucker will jump around on you, but I find it’s worth having as a backup bag when I can’t make it to the gym.

TIP: If you get any water filled bag and keep it in an unheated place (like garage) and live somewhere where it gets below freezing, put some anti freeze in there, or fill it with sand. Seems obvious, and I suppose it is, but my brother learned this the hard way–just didn’t think about it I guess.

it depends if you plan on doing a real fighting workout, or if you’re just using the bag for fun or light workouts. a lot of the guys made a good point that it’s very economical and easy to use (size, quiet).

however, i was never able to hit it as hard as possible, which made it worthless for real-world fight training. had one rutpture, too…
