Anyone Have a Good BF Calculator?

First of all, no soy milk. Soy milk is the devil. Just do a search on Soy Milk.

If you want to gain muscle, you have to get big. Carbs are key for getting big. Protein is key for repairing muscle. To get bigger muscles, you need carbs and protein.

If you just eat protein, your muscles gains will be slow, but you’ll repair what muscle you have. If you just eat carbs, you’ll gain weight but not all of it will be muscle.

If you combine Protein and Carbs, your muscles repair quicker, you grow more muscle, and you’ll gain size. The good size kind of size that is.

That’s just off the top of my head. So I may be off in some areas.
I’ve read all of the stuff on soy, and I’m still not convinced (or else there would be a lot more Chinese men with boobs), but I’ll switch to something else.

My carb intake from grains right now is 50-100g a day (oatmeal for breakfast every day, often some bread with natty peanut butter accounts for the rest.)

If you count vegetables, my total carb intake is 150-200+ a day. But I’m going to shut off independent thought and just take your advice - what’s a decent ratio of protein/carbs/fat, calorie wise? 60/20/20 or 50/25/25, something like that?

Well, hives sounds more like an allergy to milk than lactose intolerance, but I’ll assume you know your body better than I (the runs stacks up better for your diagnosis).

Look into getting Lactaid milk (milk + lactase enzyme). It’s geared for people with lactose intolerance (I actually prefer it to regular milk).

It shouldn’t cost much more (if at all) than almond/soy milk, and you should be able to drink all you want without fear of shitting yourself a new hole.
I’m pretty confident it’s lactose intolerance, I can eat stuff with relatively little to no lactose (yogurt, cottage cheese, Parmesan) but stuff with lots of it (most pizza, feta, Gorgonzola) is like a knife up my butthole. I’ll get some Lactaid next time I’m at Trader Joe’s.

I don’t know how I could argue with the Incredible Hulk. Or whatever your avatar is.

If you’d read everything on soy, you WOULD be convinced. Essentially the amount of soy Asians eat is considerably less than non-asians when you take into account “stealth” soy being placed into products i.e. undeclared soy (yes they can do that).

This means that the average American eats several times more soy than the average Asian. Okey dokey?

Is undeclared soy present in like, multi-grain breads and peanut butter? Right now I’m eating very little packaged food in general (multi-grain bread, natural peanut butter and some canned tuna, the latter of which I know is in soybean oil) and do they still sneak this stuff into like, wild salmon and Amish chicken and other stuff that’s supposed to be ‘pure’?

Anything unprocessed will be fine for the most part. Wild Salmon etc. should be fine too. Go for grass-fed beef/lamb whatever if you can.

What kind of bread are we talking? Natural peanut butter should be OK too.

I will go for more red meat, none of the grocery stores within about a ten mile radius stock grass-fed (at least, I don’t think so.) Will make an effort to get some next time I head to a better market.

It’s just like, regular multi-grain bread, although it has vitamins and minerals added (which is probably bad.) I just checked and found out it has soy flour, so I’ll switch to something else next time I go to the market.

Don’t take me as laughing at you buddy, but I was just looking at your pics and it brought back memories. The first day I ever stepped in a gym I was 7 inches taller than you are and weighed 10 pounds less.

Man I wish I had some pictures from those days. I spent my whole life until my late 20’s scrawny and soft. It never even occurred to me that lifting weights would have any effect at all.

I am no eye poppingly impressive guy now, but I’ve definitely put on 50 - 60 lean pounds since then. Stick with it you may shock yourself.

Don’t worry about “grass-fed” so much. Yeah, it’s a better fatty-acid profile, but just eat a shitload of regular beef and take your fish oil and you’ll be fine.
