this sounds stupid as hell, but I wanted to know if anyone ever tried it, or if it’s even legal to do in competition.
Legality varies by federation,I think. My training partner raps everything with everything. I swear, for a raw lifter he wears more layers than a fucking Eskimo.

lol, always gotta get an edge.
I’m pretty sure it’s illegal in most feds. Don’t quote me there, though.
Elbow wraps were pretty standard until around 1974 when all wraps were banned. Then there was only one Fed and wraps were basically medical bandages. I think elbows had a limit of 1 metre, although the Brits allowed more.
Knee wraps came back a year later, and the first super suits, overtight wrestling suits appeared soon after.
When wraps were banned, I think Jerry Jones squatted 675 at 198, at the US nats, he never squatted huge with suit or wraps but was a very strong guy.
Elbow wraps, possibly the most famous was big Jim Williams who benched 675 with wraps, and had a very close miss at 700, way back in the world champs in around 1972. This was the day of no “excessive” arch and 2 sec pauses (that was what they felt like)
Damn. Strong scary people.
I only wrap them if I’m in incredible amounts of pain from tendonitis. Which means, a whopping 1 time before. I don’t like the boost they give me–if I’m training to increase my raw bench I don’t want anything giving me a false sense of strength most of the time.
I don’t wrap mine but most of the older guys at my gym wear knee and elbow sleeves every session just to keep their joints warm. I don’t know if they help with pain or not, but I’m 100% sure you don’t get much if any carryover from sleeves.
They are’nt illegal in training!
exactly Boffin, i like wrapping my elbows during some exercises in training because they take a beating and hurt like hell. but i believe no wrapping of the elbows is allowed in most federations unless there is a medical reason, then upon showing proof you may be able to wear some kind of elbow wrap/sleeve. Mark Bell wears elbow wraps so there is good company in wearing elbow wraps. Conorh go to hell, i do what i want, and do not wrap up very often.
