Anyond Do Wall Sits?

I feel like the wall sit is a under rated exercise, I do them every leg workout. Anyone else?

Great finisher.

I was made to do them when studying aikido. Haven’t done them since.

squats, leg press, lunges, curls…those are real leg exercises. Wall sits are more for endurance training.

Legitimate question for you… why?

You’re 130-something pounds and trying to bulk, last I saw. I’d very much like if your weight training workouts were challenging enough that you don’t have the energy or ability to hold a wall sit for more than a few seconds at the end of each leg session.

I don’t remember hearing about you doing aikido before. Very cool. How long did you study it?

Pretty much, yep. They also work well for “refocusing” misbehaving students in P.E. class.

There was a long period in college where I was trying to learn to fight so I would find people who wouldn’t mind teaching me in my spare time because my schedule was pretty heavy. We practiced for about a year until I moved on to sparring at a dojo for a while. My problem is I never stick with any one thing for long and my gym time usually always won out in the end…that and studying.

I love martial arts. My cousin is a black belt (we’re about the same age and went to college together). I hate I can’t claim anything like that because I didn’t stick with it.

Ha, tell me about it.

My girlfriend is a black belt (we actually met at the dojo), but the school freaking closed down and the instructor moved out of state before I had an opportunity test for mine. I’m “stuck” as a brown belt with two black stripes.

Event though I am trying to bulk, I do think its a good idea to add a little bit of endurance training, I do them about 3/4 into my workout, usually 4 sets of 15 seconds.

How tall are you?

Again, if you have the energy to hold a good wall sit for several sets of 15 seconds, that energy could be put to better use doing more productive exercises.

If you want to do them, that’s one thing, but they’re absolutely not helping you to build muscular size or strength.

Agreed. I don’t know why in the hell anyone would do this for bodybuilding.

When we did it, it was more for discipline and stability, not muscle growth.

I’m 5’10 and I’ve gained some weight, about 140 now.

Then how about you focus on the shit that will cure the skinny-fuck-itis you seem to be plagued with?

Dude, do squats and leg presses. leave the wall sits to people with a goal NOT involved with bodybuilding.

I mean, you do know that is what you are doing, right?

totally agree with Prof and Chris here, pick a good program and stick to it. Don’t waste time with this stuff.

Also 15 seconds will not help even with endurance = total waste of time.

people have built tons of muscles with squats and presses, why would you want to reinvent the wheel now

Can you show us pictures of legs that have been built using wall sits as a ‘great finisher’? I hadn’t even heard of them being used as a leg exercise before this thread. Whats wrong with sticking to the proven basics such as squat variations, leg presses, lunges and deadlift variations? You’d be better off putting your energy into those than doing wall sits.

Did these both in martial arts and group calisthenics settings.

Simple and effective way to get a large group of people to hate their lives without the benefit of any equipment (besides the wall).

Never did them voluntarily.

Always seemed more like a “mental toughness” type of thing rather than a legitimate exercise.

That’s exactly what it is. The OP took what I wrote about “endurance” and ran with it…in the wrong direction.

No one with huge quads got them from wall sits.

great finisher for quads = drop sets on leg curls or leg press

for hams = same for leg curls

not wall sits… wtf

Totally off topic, but you could get your next grading through a seminar.

great finisher - 20rep squats, or 3minute set

not wall sits

I have a freind who said when he was little instead of time outs his dad made him do wall sits for 5min and if he fell down he had to start over. Today he has legs like tree trunks and is pretty fast, however i should also mention his mom was a bodybuilder and his dad was a sprinter.
