Currently running track and doing lots of field events as well and its my first year of track as well.I was wondering if there are any triple and or long jumpers who had any input on what I can read or watch to have a better technique in the triple jump and longjump.
Current pr for long jump is 19’3 and for triple its 39’3. Before learning both of them about two weeks ago all I was doing was throwing shotput and discus and running the 100 m dash 200 m dash and 4x100 relay but I feel like I have potential to do alot better.
My coach decided to let me try it cuz I told him I thought I would be good at it and now im going to districts for both lol. Also any videos or any other type of help with shotput or discus would be great as well seeming as im new at both of them too. Current pr for shot 41 ft from a glide and 125 ft for discus from a standing throw. I just need a little help with technique and such any input would be appreciated. thanks

isnt that why you have a coach[/quote]
That would depend on the coach…I had 3 throwing coaches over the course of 4 years in HS. At college you can expect a much higher level of coaching, but at the HS level it’s a crapshoot.
I’m 18 first season throwing and jumping only been jumping for about two weeks and I have been throwing since the beginning of the outdoor season and my jumps are alright and well I could throw better. To answer the question about " isnt that what your coach is for?" well hes a good coach I wish he had been my football coach to be honest. But be me im a visual learner when it comes to this kind of stuff I need to see technique as in like a video or somthing of that nature. so if anyone had any suggestions for a throwing video online or jumping video I can view online thatd be great.
Youtube has a lot of videos of elite jumpers and throwers.
Dan John has a great free ebook on discus throwing on his site. It might be too late to learn how to do a full throw for you, but check it out anyway.
As far as long and triple jump form, one helpful tip is to not try too hard and muscle the jumps. The distance you get will largely be a product of the horizontal velocity gained in your run-up. The jump itself is a very quick, mostly vertical impulse just to get you off the ground so your horizontal momentum can take you forward.
Trying to muscle the jump will make your ground contact time too long, slowing your horizontal velocity.
thanx for the link I checked it out some pretty good stuff on there. Just a little side note I am doing a full spin for discus and for shotput im doing the glide technique in case u were wondering. " How many events are you allowed to do?"
In my district “concorde district” for invitational meets were allowed 3 running events and 4 field events. If im not mistaken same goes for districts regionals and states.
Im 18 years old I actually just got back from a my last seasonal track meet. The videos did help I had my best throw in shot and placed regional for the 100m dash. I got districts coming up any more input for videos and such of shotput would help. thanks in advance
41 feet with the 12lb? If so 41 feet in the shot isn’t all that big. You may win a few high school competitions but unlikely to do much else, If it is with the 16lb then its quite impressive.
My best at 18 was over 52 feet with the 12lb and 42 feet with the 16lb and i only trained for 6 months before having an accident that put me out for 2 years. A kid im coaching at the moment went over 60 feet with the 12lb and over 47 feet with the 16lb and he is only just 17.
Sorry my man I just realised how nasty my post may have seemed. I meant concentrate on the throwing rather than the jumping. What are your sprint times?
I am primarily an OLifter but I hurdle 1-2x a week (picked it up 8months ago) and use to do Athletics in school (100, 200, 4x100, shot put, high jump and triple jump) but didn’t pick them up.
