anti inflamatories

I have a chronic back problem Im trying to rehab and I am just to stiff and full of pain in the morning (pun intended). My doctor prescribed some pills and also offered that I should take iburofen(advil) occasionaly.

I know anti inflamatories have a good and bad side and should be used cautiously. How should I use them, when exactly in the day, which kind, for how long etc, those of you who use the occasional anti inflamatory how do you use them etc.

Thanks

Lior.

When i tend to use ibuprofen I usually take 800mg first thing. Then 400mg every four hours after. I find the effect to be cumalative.

Always with food as they can irritate the mucus stomach lining. I find that caffeine has a marked synergystic effect and this has been proven in a number of studies (especially for women who don’t find ibuprofen alone very effective).

I have used this regime for up to a week with no problems. But i wouldn’t like to say how long you could use it for indefinitely.

Good luck with the rehab. (BTW i found back extensions and a firm bed work wonders on my back).

Anti-inflamatories are also famous for causing liver damage if used regularly.

There are natural anit-inflamatories such as, Tumeric, Fish Oil. willow bark. If I were you I would at least give them a try before going on the hard stuff.

The anti inflammatory actions of fish oils require massive doses to be of any real effect, even then they are mild compared to the stronger drugs.

Willow bark is only asprin by another name, and if used chronically will cause GI problems just like asprin.

Everything has a negative effect, its best to sort hte problem if possible.

Chronic use of anti inflammatories also has the potential to reduce growth (as inflammation is part of the signals for protien synthesis.)

ask your dr. about bextra. it’s an anti-inflam that does’nt affect your heart or stomach.you have to watch out when takeing some anti-inflams because they
can increase the chance of muscle tears.
any further info i suggest you get from a dr. specializing in sports medicine.

I have used MSM with success.
