Anna's Training Log Part 2 (Part 1)

I’ve never been, but you’re not exactly in the Mecca for BBQ these days haha.

It was highly rated… :sob:
I’m also a HUGE sucker for meat.

So far, 0/3 of the places I’ve tried have been great

Week 3: day 7

Workout inspired by @boilerman

10-1 of hang power cleans (or power cleans when u set the bar down) at 95lbs with 10goblet squats-50lb db and 10 lying leg raises btw sets

  • felt good, took ~26 min, not as bad as expected but needed to break up the power cleans quite a bit though

Note: holy fuck I’m fluffy…. I don’t think my midsection has ever been this soft. Hopefully some of it is water retention from the sodium from yesterday’s bbq
With that said, my veins are showing more despite the increase in fat. Probably the heat

Nice! Seems like some heavy weight you’re moving, especially for conditioning!

Was about to say the same thing, haha.

Week 1: day 1

Press: 1x10-45lbs; 1x5-55,65, 1x8-75; 5x10-55lbs
Bench tricep dips: 5x 10
Db incline bench: 3x8-35lb dbs
Db flyes: 5x12-10lb dbs
Curls: 2x5-45lbs
3x(10db rows/side-35lb db+10burpees+10lying leg raises)
20min incline treadmill walk-2.4-2.6mph, 12%incline

  • elbows and upper back pissed, showed in the press, overall a good workout, really happy with how easy the incline walk felt

Update:

  • feeling really in the dumps.
  • as much as I complained about nitpicky advisor, I have to acknowledge the value of the experience. I was building the survey for my thesis project and it was amazing how easy I found it. After making a 5x3x2 study and a 5x2x2 the 3x2 I’m doing for this feels stupid simple.

I don’t know how appropriate this is but your recent couple of posts in here in addition to the flame free section compels me to ask if you’re still pursuing psychotherapy?
I’m confident you really need that more than fat burners or a coach.

Sorry to hear that. For different reasons than what you’re portraying here or mainly the body image issues?

Honestly mostly different (mostly academic) reasons. When that is shitty, I try looking for validation elsewhere. Since fitness is the only other thing I’m semi-accomplished at, that’s usually where my attention goes.

The summer is passing much more quickly than anticipated and

  1. I have not made nearly as much progress on supplemental maths as I need, so I’m getting more worried about next semester. I’m sure I’ll be fine with all the help I have, but I REALLY REALLY want to be self sufficient
  2. I have tk study for the GRE, again…. I’ll spare my thoughts since telling the whole truth about how I feel on a public forum will certainly get me in trouble down the line
  3. Applications. It’s nearly July, I STILL only have one school I’m really serious about…. And it’s not HBS. This is turning out to be more nerve wracking than undergrad bc at least for undergrad, I had a clear focus and a track that I’d been working on since middle school. In Uni, I was on a nice track then made a sharp turn two semesters ago. Since I’m probably not going tk get into my dream programme straight out of undergrad, I’m going to need to do a predoc- aka 2years of mostly menial data work. Some ppl like data work, but I absolutely hate it. I like writing models and designing/running experiments. The data work is a rather unpleasant byproduct.

Makes a lot of sense that the stress from academic struggles swaps over and poisons your view. However it feels like you’re punishing instead of validating yourself with how you’re talking about your fitness stuff lately

Week 1: Day 2

Deadlift: 1x5-135,175, 195lbs; 1x5-205,225, 1x8-235lbs!; 2x15, 2x10 (conventional) 175lbs
Lying leg raises: 5x12
Snatch grip DL: 4x5-155lbs super set with 10 bodyweight BSS/side
4x(24m walking lunges+ front rack carry up stairs+farmers carry back to start)-2 12kg Kbs

  • awesome workout, VERY happy with 235 for 8-could have done more, but form was breaking down, rest of it was fine, grip was limiting factor in the lunge carry circut thing

Update:
so… I emailed my academic hero (and hopefully future advisor!!!) a couple days ago. Turns out my email didn’t get shuttled into his spam folder

I’m actually confused here bc Silvia is one of my thesis advisors, and as far as I’m aware, isn’t teaching next semester

Anyways, ig it’s nice that he seems to know that I exist

On a related note, I need to shout out my parents. The annual conference for my field is being held at UCSD this fall. I told my mum that I wanted to go and even though she doesn’t actually know what it is, immediately said she’d support me in going.

It’s more that I’m looking that my fitness and seeing that I’m also failing, ie failing on all fronts
These deadlift workouts feel nice though

Week 1: day 3 (yesterday)

35min incline treadmill walk, 2.4-2.7mph, 11.5-12% incline
12min elliptical, level 10

  • felt good to get blood flowing, but holy crap, I had a hard time finding a body part that wasn’t sore :joy:, digestion was also off.

Anna, probably more than half the people on this forum have a bit of body dysmorphia, and I think you have quite a bit more than your fair share. You look great.

I just listened to a lecture with a by a prof who’s super passionate about lifting (national champ in squat and bench apparently)

He said to hit him up to talk about lifting. I am so unbelievably happy

Lol better yet ask him to coach you lol

This dude is a full prof, has 6 kids, trains, does consulting work AND gets 8 hrs of sleep a night

True inspiration

Compare this to Jan 2020

Lying leg raises: 5x12
3x(10 alt lunges+10 good mornings)-95lbs
Air squats: 4x50, 30 sec tests
Conventional deadlift: 2x10-155lbs, 2x6-175lbs, 2x6-195lbs, all beltless

  • a LOT harder than expected, legs and back fatigued going in, very disappointed with too set since I was previously able to do 80kg for 17 reps…., the back off sets were surprisingly hard on back- got bad headache too, everything else felt really really good (done in afternoon)
  • super super bloated this morning, belt was really tight and was gassy, also looking soft (probably from inflammation)
