Anna's Training Log Part 2 (Part 1)

If I was you, it’d be worth it

FWIW, Pwn has shown that you can do A LOT with very limited equipment—you just have to get creative (think pressing hotel side tables and so forth). Also seems like a good opportunity to work on your conditioning.

That said, only YOU can really say whether or not $55 for the membership is worth it to YOU.

Good point. I know I can get a good workout in. It’s just time away from the “big 3”

I’ve been wanting to do more conditioning for a while. Maybe these three weeks are my chance

I know I was not tagged but this is not necessarily true (unless you don’t have a bench or rack which I believe is not the case).

You could “master the movements” using slow tempo reps (think 5 second eccentric and 5 second concentric), various pause work pausing at various parts of the lift to get a very new stimulus. And also if you want to focus on conditioning might be the perfect set up.

Half the workout focused on slow, controlled tension and the other half focused on high work rate and conditioning

Ngl, I kind of want a break from back squat bench and deadlift anyways

Appreciate the tag for sure. I genuinely don’t know the first thing about training for these goals to be able to advise on what would be the right call/worth it.

If I was somewhere for a month with 135lbs total and some KBs/DBs up to 80lbs, I’d be going absolutely wild with ad hoc stuff myself

Is there any gyms nearby offering free visits, first visit free etc? Wrangle a few of those initially maybe? Might be a bit of annoying paperwork though just for a guest pass…

Thanks for the input guys.
I’ve decided to not go for a membership and do…. What ever I feel like
I really want a break from the big 3

With that said, I’m adding back daily work of 100kb swings and 100alternating lunges

I’d totally pay that for a month membership. I say go for it!

I’ve been on a bit of a spending spree lately… have decided against it

Today’s work

DB incline press: 6x10-35lb Dbs
straight arm pull down: 6x12-25lbs
Z-press: 6x9-20lb DBs
Tricep pushdown: 6x10-25lbs
Daily work: 5x(101- arm swings/arm- 25lbs+20 alternating lunges)

  • felt good, the DB bench was a lot harder than expected, still taking things pretty easy, good pump in lats from the straight arm pulldowns

I’m sorry to hear that. I paid $25 for a one day pass to a shitty gym at the beach just to have some sanity. Well worth it :joy:

I mean, if I didn’t have the barbell and access to the compound gym, I’d definitely drop the cash

Either way I know you’ll kill it!!

Thoughts

I need to shoutout a couple of my “academic older brothers”. I talk a lot about my friend (that one) and profs, but these ppl are also really important.

  1. Behavioural science friend: met this friend in Loewenstein’s class fall 2020. As the label suggests, we talk about Behavioural science- research ideas, studies… he’s off to Columbia for grad school studying consumer behaviour.
Anyways, I’ve been discussing some ideas about “moral accounting” with him and he’s really excited. He actually told me to hit him up and we could work together. It feels so great to have someone who respects me for my abilities, not bc I’m “fun” or “cute”. He also gives me confidence about my applications.

  2. Founder of ERC (aka Econ god): this dude is stacked. As in won the NSF GRF stacked, but also super humble. Anyways, when I first joined ERC, we’d have these paper discussions. Given my lack of maths, I did not understand any of them. He and my friend (that one) sat with me and explained the equations line by line. Recently, we’ve reconnected and he’s given really great advice about grad school. He’s actually attending the programme I hope to get into and will be in Boston. We’re going to meet up.

  3. Physics Friend: I’ve never met this friend in person, but will meet him this summer since he’s going to be living in the same dorm this June. He studied astrophysics so I have no interest in what he does, but he’s been super supportive and encouraging when I’ve struggled in maths or have wanted to give up. He’s also usually the first to react or comment when I post “wins”

Now… I really do wish I had more academic female friends… but I’ll take what I have

On a separate note, I did some sketching

As strange as it may sound, I like high fashion. I have a series of China themed sketches and am working on jewelry. These are the three latest additions. I’m hoping to get to 10dresses and 4 pieces of jewelry by end of summer. Once I have that “collection” I will send it off to a friend who is far far far far more qualified (just graduated from Parsons) to see if she can turn these into proper designs
@Andrewgen_Receptors you asked about life outside of academics.

I’m happy to see that you are human! Please don’t lose this in pursuit of higher education. Many people with the most stacked resumès are lacking in their “I’m a human” resumè.

Beautiful drawings btw

Haha :joy: that’s basically the reaction nitpicky advisor gave me when I said I wanted to pivot away from psych into Econ.

Okay, I’m going to be honest, I really really don’t like where my fitness/physique is headed

  1. I’ve definitely put on bodyfat despite not trying to gain weight
  2. I’ve become much lazier in my workouts

This is precisely what I’ve been afraid of with this “slippery slope” :sob:
IDK what I’m going to do next semester when I don’t have time to pay so much attention

I’ll also have to account for reduced activity
