5x(12 db bench-35lb Dbs+8 lateral raises-10lb dbs)
3x(10 incline DB press fly things-25lb Dbs+10 deadbugs/side)
4 armour building complexes/side-50lb DB EMOM (failed press on last rep on L side)
5x(10 tricep pushdowns+10 face pulls)-30lbs
Conditioning: 2x(1min db snatch-25lbs+1min alt lunges+1min kbs-25lbs+1min rest)
felt good, the DB bench stuff really worked shoulders, happy w/ armour building complex but pissed that I missed the press. wanted to get to 5/side at least, conditioning was fun
5x(2snatches+3cleans+4 front squats)/side-45lb db, every 2 min
Z press: 5x7-25lb dbs
Deadbugs: 5x10
2x(1snatch+2cleans)/side-50lb db
stayed up late Wednesday night so was pretty tired, very happy with the complexes, everything moved pretty easy
Something to note:
I remember a few years ago I was watching a CrossFit video and the girls were talking about snatching the 50lb dbs. At that time, I could barely do 30 and thought 50 was impossible. Now I can comfortably do it, if only for singles. The girls in the video were doing it for reps in a wod, but 1) they’re extremely high level and 2) all of them were/are at least 40kg heavier than me
Good mornings: 5x5-60kg, 2x15-95lbs
Hardstyle KBS: 5x5-45lb lb
Front squat: 10x2-135lbs, EMOM
the work felt manageable when I was doing it, but a couple hours later, it felt like someone dropped a bag of bricks on me- lightheaded, everything heavy and hurt, plans to do conditioning got scrapped
I remember the first time one of my papers caused some excitement in the community. It was maybe the first time I didn’t feel like a total imposter… And maybe the last, haha.
You’re an undergrad, so it’s all good. Me? I was already “Dr. SvenG” by that point—a first- or second-year assistant professor, I think. And, for the record, the excitement didn’t last long!
Lunges: 1x10/side-95lbs, 2x10/side-105lbs, 2x10/side-115lbs, 1x9/side-125lbs
3x(20alternating 1-arm kbs-25lb kb+10 plank hip dip things/side)
Paused squat: 4x5-135lbs w/3 sec pauses and explosive concentric
RDL: 3x5/side-45lb kb in one hand, 25lb kb in the other
holy crap lunges are hard, this took me an hour and was destroyed after
I’ve noticed that after hard lower body workouts, I’m mentally and physically wiped for a couple of hours- light headed, brain fog and a weird feeling that my chest is getting crushed. I’ll need to figure something else bc I can’t afford to be useless for a couple of hours next semester
felt good, the RDLs were nice but grip got in the way, went by really quick
On another note, I plan on starting GZCL in a week after I get to Boston. They gym situation is beyond ideal (house is 2min from gym AND had mini gym in house). But…. Idk if I’ll be able to handle it while I’m there. If that’s the case, I’ll run 5/3/1 ssl with 3x8 accessories
I’m working on drafting my statement of purpose. It’s been extremely frustrating because I’m having a hard time putting together a coherent “story”. After some reflection, I realized it’s because I’m basically running two “operating systems” - the quant/Econ system and the psych/humanities system. Not all the stuff I’ve done works in both systems and not many programmes I’m looking to apply to do either. It’s difficult to explain why I say I want to do Econ theory work, but also have projects on first impressions, Reddit confessions and incentives for remote workers
I thought this was a neat little analogy
Oh nice! Enjoy your time there. I’ll pop back in with a few suggestions on places to see and things to do while you’re in town when I’m back to a computer.
